Having recently played Max Payne 1 and 2 for the first time, I really have a hard time with this character design. I'm really gonna need to see it in action for it to flow with me.

Same here. I imagine out-of-shape Max Payne is going to fail at bullet time like Fat Bastard:

Everybody seems to be doing nothing but complaining. I don't know, guys, Rockstar seems to be on something of a roll. Maybe we should just trust them.

@Meghterb1985

I'm going to address you and all others who share your opinion. If you had read the Game Informer article, the new look makes perfect sense - all the stuff that happened in New York has hit him hard and he's let himself go. I love the series and the character, and I'd rather see him progress (or degress) than yet again solve a murder mystery in New York as a detective. There'd be no character development if they literally brought him back as he was all those years ago.

@ch3burashka If you had played MP2 on the toughest (though still insultingly easy) setting, you would find that Max letting himself go makes no sense (unless they somehow address that ending as well, which I doubt). Not to mention that nothing about his character, or how he handled the events of the first two (especially the first) games indicates he'd just let himself go now.
Give me back the noire feeling of the first two games and another brilliant villain (NH and VL are amongst my favourite villains of all games) and I'll be a happy guy!

@ch3burashka I'm not against character development, but Max Payne as a series is *all* about the noir. You simply cannot make a MP game set in the colorful jungles of South America and maintain the soul of the series.

I wouldn't mind so much if Max is a beer-bellied drunken loser after the events of MP2, but without New York, without the noir styling, it simply *isn't* Max Payne. It's another game (good or bad) shamelessly cashing off the name.

I wish he was dead. The original game is a classic, though it's gameplay doesn't hold up as well now as it did. Not seeing this re-launch working, particularly without Sam Lake.

Kinda sucks they turned Max Payne into Jeff Bridges. Not that I don't love him as an actor, I just didn't see the need to so drastically change up Max Payne.

dear rockstar,

this isn't max payne...sorry guys, you know i love you deeply, but no one is going to buy this game if he looks like that. now i know that you can't really use the likeness of the original payne because his face was one of the guys in remedy, so you're probably thinking "twat are we going to do?!" well, i have your solution. throw this game out the window and make another manhunt instead. please?

love,
steve

It better be delayed so they could go back and COMPLETELY change him back to the way that he was, and not this fat, ugly, weird looking guy. Why mess up a successful formula? SERIOUSLY?!

I was under the impression that it was scheduled for Q4 2011 after its first delay. This probably means it'll come out early 2012.

Can't wait.

Incorrect. Sort of.

Rockstar published both Max Payne and Max Payne 2. The difference is that Max Payne and Max Payne 2 were both developed by Remedy. This one's developed by Rockstar Vancouver, which developed Bully. So you're right that the same people who created the franchise aren't involved in this game.

Max Payne 3 got caught in development hell at Remedy (depending on if you believe those rumors) then they started working on Alan Wake.

At that point either Rockstar took development away from Remedy or Remedy gave it up. Either way, MP3 is now in Rockstar Vancouver's hands.

Wouldn't it be tight if u started the game as fat Max and progressively get him back to his old figure... I can see it now... Chapter 1: Battle of the Bulge... and the climax would be a final shootout at Bosley Hair Center... Yes, awesome...

While Rockstar may be my favorite developer, Max Payne has always been Remedy's series and this isn't it. Instead of a cool noirish cop we've got a fat bald third person shooter set in bright jungle environments. Seems to me like they're slapping the name on a new franchise which seems unusual for RS to do.
