Something like this would be good for the 360. Just saying.

I played this joypad on the neo geo eons ago. If this is an exact replica, that thumbstick/d-pad is terrible.

This looks a lot the Sega Saturn USB pads that I've been using with my PS3. But this has the added advantage of having the home button.

BTW, you can buy those Saturn game pads on eBay for a low as about $10. Just do a search for Sega Saturn USB on eBay. They don't have the home button, but they are 1/4 the price of this thing.

Re-release the neo geo's arcade stick controller and you've got yourself a deal.

Looks rad. However... Buyer Beware! Sony can disable it from working on the PS3 whenever they please. Sony already killed my Saturn USB pad so that it no longer works. Just like Sony took away Linux. Just a warning.

@Ujn Hunter

Meh.

This is licensed. Sony isn't under any obligation to support everything that is soldered to a USB cable, and doing so actually harmed their business, so they had to disable some stuff, such as unlicensed rip-off controllers and those USB hacking tools.

This, however, is licensed. It'll remained supported, just like all other licensed controllers have.

"so they had to disable some stuff, such as unlicensed rip-off controllers and those USB hacking tools."

The Saturn controllers he's referring to aren't "rip-off" controllers nor USB hack jobs. They're legit Sega Saturn controllers manufactured with USB ends. They used to work just fine with the PS3. I've got a couple, but I haven't used them recently. I guess I'll need to try them again when I get home.

@Vidikron

Are they licensed?

No?

Of course not.

There's your explanation. My explanation of the unlicensed controllers and USB hacks is a justifaction for Sony changing how the PS3 handles unlicensed crap. It is not some kind of new rule, where everything that isn't a hack device must now be supported by Sony.

You didn't pay for a licensed PS3 controller, and your PS3 may or may not work with it. I'm not saying this out of some notion of morality... just reality.

It's a completely different issue from this licensed controller, which will work reliably, I greatly suspect.

Dustin is 110% right on this issue. Sony prob didn't think it was such a bad idea to have both Linux and open USB ports, both were misused to hack the PS3 and because of that Sony tied lose ends. If you want to blame anyone blame the hackers themselves but since we're on the net i bet that wont ever happen

Looks pretty nifty, though I'm not sure if the D-Pad is actually a pad, a nub, or a short stick. I would probably be happiest if it were a stick, since I already have a PS2 Saturn pad (different than the USB Saturn pad). It actually has both the Start and Select buttons, but I still needed the PS3-to-PS2 adapter.

It's an 8 Direction analog stick (think movability of N64 analog with smooth movement of playstation analog).

They should have released a multi-platform version that works for the PS3, 360 and PC.

It's weird that they suddenly start supporting the 360 with games like KoF 2002 Unlimited Match, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, KoF Sky Stage, and Trouble Witches Neo coming soon, but once they start PLANNING to release retro games on the PS3, they release a special controller for the PS3.

Nothing for the 360 despite the sudden surge of support? How about the Wii, which had NeoGeo games being ported to it's Virtual Console for at least 2 years and just had a huge wave of releases within the past 2 months?

I used a YouTube video to help me make a Japanese account (and I have a European account too), but I don't think I could buy anything over PSN. I could navigate kanji-written menus with practice, but I have no yen to buy anything. Can I use my debit card to convert dollars into yen over PSN?

@Maxx the Slasher As far as I know you need a credit card with a Japanese billing address. However, there are a couple of sites out there that'll sell you usable Japanese PSN cards at a bit of a premium.

Wikipedia for the original Neo Geo CD game pad:

Movement is controlled via an unusual d-pad/thumbstick hybrid, which is used similarly to modern analog sticks, but technologically is closer to an 8-way digital d-pad, POV-hat or arcade stick.

Having a Neo Geo CD, the mini stick is original to itself. It makes the clicky noise. It's so Neo Geo. It's a stiff, compact, and ergo design unmatched by anything recent. I want this so pad. The 6-button layout is supreme. Figures it would be sold out INSTANTLY.
