If you're a Time Warner or Brighthouse network cable subscriber, the new ESPN streaming functionality that came with the November Dashboard update was kinda lost on you in that you couldn't find it ... ever. Hope is coming though -- Brighthouse (which is owned by Time Warner) says Xbox 360 functionality is coming to its customers next year while this page on ESPN's site assures those patiently waiting that they'll be able to stream ESPN through their Xbox 360 soon.
The way it will work is when a Time Warner or Brighthouse user turns on their Xbox 360 and tries to access the ESPN app (right now, you should get this screen), it'll direct them to this ESPN activation page where they will have to authenticate their account with Brighthouse or Time Warner, then be given an access code. Previously, ESPN3.com content wasn't available to Time Warner and Brighthouse subscribers, though a new deal inked back in September changed that.
So where does that leave us? Pretty much at the same spot, actually -- though at least now it seems there's a light at the end of the tunnel and it's illuminating sports stuff.
[Thanks, Grady]

Good news for those folks. :)
I don't use it much, but it's a pretty cool little app.

I have Time Warner and a semi-functioning ESPN app on my 360. I can access the library of highlights but I am unable to watch live events or any games in the library. Its essentially a large, splintered episode of Sportscenter.
Glad to know full service is coming, eventually.

There is a very key asterisk on the statement that Time Warner will allow access. You have to not only be subscribed to Roadrunner, but also a Time Warner cable package that includes ESPN. I can confirm it, too, because I only have Roadrunner, and ESPN3 doesn't work. The highlight clips work, but the live events don't.

I'm not denying this will be true in the future, I have roadrunner, basic cable (including ESPN), and all of the other requirements to use ESPN3 on the 360 and can only view the short sportscenter like clips.
It's annoying.
This "news story" is that there is some progress being made on having the full application work on the 360.

TimeWarner/Brighthouse sent out an email a month or so saying that they would soon be supporting ESPN3... which is a bought time

@bentdog Netflix doesn't have recorded sports game (let alone anything live). I don't use it much, but ESPN is great for the sports enthusiast.

really sucks it's taken this long and it's still not fixed. all because time warner doesn't allow espn3 to it's internet only subscribers, and requires you to have a cable plan. thus people like me, who have cable, digital phone, and 20 mbps internet STILL can't access ESPN3 on their xbox.
What they should've done, is allow it automatically for everyone (including their internet only subscribers). Once they implemented this "access code" system, then they could implement it for everyone with cable plans and block it for internet subscribers, but that's still much more work than it should be. That way people like me who prefer to watch English Premier League games on their TV over their computer screens could do so. Shame on you Time Warner. I hate you, but the other options suck more than you. Wish FIOS were in my area. :/

Check out the source code for the activation page. Looks like some of the code is already in place to redirect you to the Time Warner/Bright House login page, just commented out. Maybe the update will be ready sooner rather than later.

Brighthouse isn't owned by TimeWarner Cable. They're owned by Advance/Newhouse. TWC is in partnership with Advance/Newshouse when it comes to Brighthouse Networks, but Advance/Newhouse took control of the branding about seven years ago due to the way TWC was running things.

As a Columbus, Ohioan I have always had to deal with this:
"Is ESPN3.com available to Insight customers in Columbus, Ohio?
Unfortunately, no. High speed Internet service for Insight customers in Columbus, Ohio is provided by Road Roader from Time Warner. Time Warner does not offer ESPN3.com at this time."
Hopefully that is going to change now

I was told by an ESPN rep that it would be "Early next year".
Take it for what it's worth.

Hmm... Boise State never played Boston College this year. ... So what is that in the screenshot???
Is someone playing with photoshop at ESPN/Microsoft/Joystiq ? Or does someone have another explanation.

@ramifications Yeah, I think the last time they played was during the MPC Bowl back in 2005.

I have Qwest and I'm not supposed to have ESPN3, but I do. I even asked Qwest's support on Twitter if we have it permanently now (I had it briefly a few months earlier) and they said I wasn't supposed to have it and that I'm just lucky. I thought it was kind of amusing.

With no pesky asterisked provisos in Microsoft's proclamations of streaming ESPN for all, I've frankly felt a little ripped off. Good to know that they're working on making good on their promises.
