Guess I still gotta wait a good while for this, as usual. Looking forward to setting up mindless fights such as tidus vs. Lightning.

Btw, I haven't seen a title so strangely named since kingdom hearts: 358/2 days.

Oh wait. That was also made by square enix. Heh.

enough with the wanktastic titles.

- Fabullons Novus Christaliers
- Dissidual Herpy Dercim 01110232

They make me want to hurt things.

Seems to be turning into SE's mantra this generation, make things deliberately obtuse (regarding how much that 012 and duodecim kinda irk me, in this case... just call it 2 already.)

If square opened a theme park tomorrow, you wouldn't only have to be "this tall to ride" you'd have to answer a mathematical skill testing question with the moon 3/4's full, trying to remain facing east while walking on your hands as you try to avoid people throwing feces at you.

At which point, any sane person would say "screw this, I'm going to go do something fun instead."

I used to love their games :(

I don't think I've ever seen anyone so succinctly nail everything that's become wrong with the company in the past few years.

Thanks :)

For a while I didn't want to admit it but... the moment they started to promote XIII and seemed to be more telling customers what they want instead of listening to them, I had to admit the company seemed to be going downhill fast :/

Hopefully they can right the ship soon so I can go back to looking forward to their titles again.

Square Enix needs to hire me as their lead project manager. I would immediately cancel ALL current projects, and get them to work on the following:

Kingdom Hearts 3
Final Fantasy VI HD remake
Final Fantasy VII HD remake
Chrono Break
Seiken Densetsu 5 (that doesn't suck)
ActRaiser 3
Illusion of Gaia + Terranigma HD Collection
Parasite Eve 3 (cancelling "Third Birthday", giving it a proper name and and making it a real RPG)
An offline Final Fantasy XIV
An offline Final Fantasy XI

@Elranzer The on-line titles should have NEVER been given numbers.
Should have just been FF: Online 1 and 2.

Whats your obsession with numbered sequels? Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep was amazing and way more enjoyable than KH1 and 2 were. It set the stage for KH3 to potentially be amazing, but I don't get why everyone is clamoring for a KH3 considering KH2 was so "finny fun!".

And why does it matter that FF11 and FF14 are online? Shakespeare's a rose by any name comes to mind. I mean if you just want them to be called FFO1 and FFO2, you still would hate them and bitch that they exist instead of other FF games. It's just stupid complaints.

Fact of the matter is JRPGs do NOT sell well like they used to. Even more so, "classic" JRPGs sell horrible outside of Japan. Chrontrigger didn't make half mil on DS, FF4 remake the same. Best selling non-Pokemon JRPG on the DS is Kingdom Hearts 358/2 with still less than a million sales. On consoles it's a similar story. With the following, none of which even come close to a half mil sales - White Knight Chronicles, Folklore, Star Ocean Last Hope, Eternal Sonata, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant, Tales of Vesperia, Magna Carta 2. Most of those are about 100k - 200k sales.

So while classic style JRPGs like Lost Odyssey are putting out numbers like 840,000k WORLDWIDE, and updated and hated titles like FF13 are selling 5.7 million copies (over 6x as many) - It's kind of hard to argue that a company should make more FF6/7 era games instead of FF13 style and more casually friendly RPGs. I mean, did you buy Resonance of Fate, Folklore, Eternal Sonata, Enchanted Arms, Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean, MagnaCarta 2 or Tales of Vesperia?

Times have changed and the JRPG genre is just dead like platforming. I'm a fan of the genre (KH:BbS, TWEWY, and Lost Odyseey are my 3 favorite games of this generation) - But I realize that fans of the genre are dwindling.

Yup, all of them. Hence listing them. Several on the DS as well. Me, I love JRPGs and always will. I can see the painting on the wall though.

It'd be cool if that Parasite Eve 3 could have a ps3 version as well, please?

Also, I agree with Ryoga... would have been a better idea to not have them in the main series. Live and learn for SE (I hope.)

It will probably be released around the same time, maybe a month later at most, since the English VAing is almost done now, and the game is getting both english and japanese updates fairly quickly.

Here's hoping this game improves on the formula and doesn't give the series a bad name. I mean, Dissidia 010:diez and 11.0001?@[ten+PLUS+one] were okay, but they don't even compare to Final Dissidia [fantasy] IV{4}[divin€ $wordz].

So in one hand you have a system that is out and has enough awesome games to warrant a purchase, as well as a ton of good and "good enough" games to carry it's weight. Then you add on the ability to play classic games from the PS1 generation.
OR
A system that has no price, no official specs, and not a single person outside of the industry has handled one in it's final form yet.

I agree, *facepalm* thinking about the current generation of gamers coming up. Either you were raised on a Wii or you're just an idiot.

@Gibbeynator Even at the conversion rate when our economy was stronger (about 100 yen to the dollar) that would be $60.90 still pretty insane for a handheld portable game.

6000 yen is a pretty standard price for a AAA PSP title. 5000 yen for titles with a lower budget; 3000 yen for budget-priced re-releases.

I miss pre-merger Squaresoft.

Why oh why did they have to make that god-awful movie that tanked the company??

There hasn't been a great game from Square since the -Enix merger. There's been *good* games (FF12, for example) but not great ones. And LOTS of crap.

Meanwhile, Enix' Dragon Quest series just keeps getting better post-merger with DQ8 and DQ9. I don't understand.

(Side-note, how about an ActRaiser 3 or sequel to the Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma series?)

@Elranzer It's an interesting thing. I used to foam at the mouth for a Final Fantasy/Square game and Enix got a giant "Meh" up untill the end of the Playstation 2. Now it's the complete opposite. DQ IX quickly found it's way into my top list of RPGs right in there with Chrono Trigger, FFs IV and VI. I do not know what is going on with Square these days but I sincerely hope they fix it soon.

1) Spirits Within was not god-awful by any means. It's an awesome sci-fi.
2) Enix was in the process of buying Square BEFORE Spirits Within tanked the company and Sony had to bail them out. That actually just delayed the merger until Square was a profitable company again. If anything, you have Spirits Within to thank for FF8, FF9, and FFX being awesome titles, before Enix came in and X-2 and beyond started straying.

@Elranzer Yeah, seriously. I tried to get pumped for that movie... but it just made too much hype so it fell beneath a ton of people's expectations. That, and they should've just left Final Fantasy out of the title since I think that alone scathed ticket sales, etc.

I find it quite funny that as this post (as every other post about this game for that matter) makes a fuzz about the game's name, everyone in every comment either do the same or has some negative comment about S-E overall. I'm not happy with them as much as the next guy, mind you, but even though Dissidia plot was thin (haven't actually opened all the "files" or whatever they are that are unlocked once you finish the game), its gameplay was truly awesome (either fighting and the RPG-part). Maybe I'm just a naive optimistic, but I'd like to see more talking about gameplay and less pointless discussion about the dumb name and Joystiq's dumb posts about it.
