Holy shit it's like an entirely different game now. Does this mean it'll get reviewed again?

Personally, i would be interested in a re-review, i wanted to like the game, but the demo was just awful :( But you could tell the team cared about the game, being able to read everything in her house, etc.

Same here, I was on the edge after the demo, but couldn't shake the thought that is just wasn't there yet. This sounds like the developers went above and beyond. Not only do they have this ridiculous patch, but also lowered the price? I think I'll buy it when I get home just on principle.

They obviously do love and care about their product.

@Twyst Ditto. The demo actually dissuaded me from purchasing. The controls were terrible, the camera was all over the place, I was actually getting dizzy. I had to quit the demo.

Awesome. I actually had bought this game, I played it for about an hour and never came back. I think it's great that a developer is actually fixing a game instead of just saying the sequel will be better. Of course making it good in the first place would have been even better. I'll give this another shot.

@Flapjackal the controls made me throw her off the ledge where you had to jump to the pipe, because that was super frustrating.

I find it odd that a developer would completely change his game because of what game reviewers said. I realize the game had it's problems but this reeks either of desperation or he agreed the game was broken when it was released.

@Jack Kevorkian , I am actually happy theres someone listening to complaints and making fixes. Just like Cole in InFamous2, people stated this isnt what we want and a change was made. We shouldnt complain about changes being made for people to enjoy their purchase, or even judge it. If it makes the game better, Im all for it.

I was actually sad to hear it got the reviews it did. I dont own an xbox, but a couple buddies do and I would have actually liked to play this game. I hope the changes allow Dark Energy to turn things around, or at least let them learn from their mistakes.

@Cavall I agree with you on some level I just find it odd. If I put blood, sweat and tears into my game then reviewers be damned. Classic example is Space Giraffe. Not a well received game but the developer never apologized for it and it's fans (like me) are hardcore about how great it is.

But if this guys sales had stagnated I guess it can't hurt.

@Jack Kevorkian

You make it sound like they felt forced to change the story and other narrative designs. All they've done is make the game look better and more enjoyable to play, which is possible to do with any given game.

Also, Space Giraffe is not much more than a lame remake of Tempest from 1980.

@WiredKnight Your comparison to Tempest is weakened by the fact that Minter also developed a good remake of Tempest. Space Giraffe incorporated elements from other classic titles such as Juno First.

I saw this game at PAX East and loved the graphics, but the trial version that I actually downloaded on XBLA was so disappointing. I thought the game had potential, but the trial did not really show any of that to me.
Hopefully the update will fix all that.

I believe that an unfortunate side effects of the Microsoft XBLA promotions like the Game Feast and the Summer of Arcade is that games get rushed to meet deadlines that are harder to hit than those usually experienced by digital distributed games.

@DragonRyder Probably true but it would seem the developer had not managed their time when they told MS it would be ready. Or they thought it was ready and then got feedback that no one was interested anymore.

@Jack Kevorkian I do not blame Microsoft at all, but developers have to realize that if they want to get the most out of an XBLA promotion, they have to deliver great games on schedule.

Well there's just no pleasing people is there? Don't fix things people asked for in your game and "whaaa developers don't listen", fix things in your game and it's "oh well they are just desperate".
Here's an idea for you, why don't you go and download the UDK, make your own 'awesome' game and post it up here. We'll review it for you and let you know how much better you did.

I wish the developer success and they can do what they want. The opinion was from my perspective.

Or did I just dream that?

I really thought this game got too much flak when it was released. I'll admit it had its flaws, but I played it to completion and enjoyed it. I didn't LOVE it, but it was fun. Anyhow, I'm glad to see it's got a uber-patch. I'll have to play through it again and see what's up.

You gave the developer a little bit of extra cash to work with to make these changes to their game. I for one do not feel cheated for having paid a little more to support this type of behavior.

@Teancum It was a rhetorical question. I don't really expect a refund or anything, but it's still sort of annoying. I guess I get the timestamps on my achievements, showing that I beat it when it was still Hydrophobia "Classic".

That's actually really refreshing. I will totally give this game another shot, to support this kind of behavior. Full admission of a kind of broken experience, and a crazy effort to both fix it and redeem themselves in the eyes of the customer base. That's classy shit.

Awesome. I really liked the game idea and was kinda hyped, but ran into a broken trial of an expensive game. Not only are they slashing the price but are improving the game? That's unheard of! Not that I'm complaining, I'm totally downloading it again tomorrow.

Amazing. You totally have to give these guys props for taking the time to go back and make these changes at all. It totally gives me the feeling that they really do care about their product, and gives me hope the next installments in the series will be much better. I had a lot of fun with this game, but did agree there was plenty of room for improvements. When this update is live, I will give the game a second playthrough and see if these changes were worth it.

its amazing what patches can do for games these days but i just think that its both a good thing and a bad thing because it allows some developers to release games that are broken, knowing that they are broken, and just patch them later to fix them. Though, the gaming industry is a highly competitive one
