@yingerman - Samesies.

You could look at it two ways: 4% of the total amount spent on video games this year is Black Ops - OR - 10% of total console sales is Black Ops.

Either way, it's ridiculous how much money one game brought in for one company in just over a month.

Ugh... I love Black Ops. But when you think of it like that. It's just sad.

This statistics is only for US I mean the 24 Billion.. but Black Ops sold everywhere..
For once people come out your cocoon and check around.. U.S is not the start and End of the world.. It is just a part of it!!

@cooljeba - The report was US consumer spending on video games, not worldwide consumer spending.

And just think thirty years ago when gaming was just labeled as a fad it would grow into size and make this much money.

That's actually larger than the boxed PC market though, which is the first time that's ever happened.

Also, take PC sales in general with a HUGE grain of salt. Reporting of digital retailers is spotty at best (I don't think Steam contributes), and a lot of sites like Amazon don't contribute sales data either (or at least they didn't used to). There are giant swaths of the PC gaming market which simply aren't tracked well.

And at least 2 billion of that goes directly to Activision Blizzard!

3 billion probably if you count Starcraft 2.

Muhahahahahah!

@Guts yeah, I can hear you. I bought like 50 games this year. it was crazy enough. the problem is that I couldn't finish about 50% of games. I am not sure whether it is addict like crack cocaine or something else?

How'd video games do compared to movies/music industry?

@blankvoid123

Games pull in more money worldwide than the movies industries.
But I don't know how it compares to music, sorry.

Surprisingly, both games and movies pale in comparison to how much money coffee rakes in.
Yes, coffee.

Unless the PC numbers include digital downloads, i.e. STEAM, the numbers are false and inaccurate. Same thing with XBOX Live and PSN, if the numbers don't include digital sales throw out this info as it is inaccurate. But for some reason the industry is perfectly okay with promoting false sales numbers for the sake of reporting sales numbers.

@Triskelion There's a whole piece of the pie dedicated to PC/Mac downloads. But as someone pointed out earlier, I don't think Steam releases numbers so all they're sales are probably not included here, so the numbers will be inaccurate.

This chart seems rather biased towards making consoles look the best. I mean the PC stuff gets split into 3 categories (MMO,Download, and Boxed). Yet all the console systems get combined into a single category.
