Unfortunately, lobby based multi-player is the best option for such a large range of players on console. Yeah, there's no communities, but the majority of gamers, (the ones that have no interest in sites like these) don't want that. To them there's no difference between game play in a lobby, and game play in a dedicated server, so why would they want to go through the hassle of selection?

Wait, so PS3 owners are just now getting a patch that allows for muting in pre-lobbies?? Man, between this and the last patch that just made it possible to play AI bots, my Wii version is looking like the fuller experience in comparison!

The thing is that the Wii version can't really be patched because of the archaic design of the wii architecture. For better or worse the Wii version is what it is and that's what it'll always be.

@Co PS3 has always had the ability to mute players in the lobby, this addition in the patch actually makes no sense. It's always been there. Maybe they just made it quicker now because before had to click on their names then goto Mute.

No dude, when 1.04 came out, the ability to mute people in the lobby's vanished.

1.05 - they have fixed that flaw.

I really don't miss spending 30 minutes looking for a good server when all my mates are offline. Only to find one and get booted by the admin just because he's OCD about uneven numbers. Or to play the same map over and over and over with no respite or team changes. Yeah, that particular facet of dedicated servers I just don't miss at all.

I understand and appreciate the benefits of dedicated servers, but those same benefits can be the bane of my existence if the people behind the wheel are tool bags. I don't have the luxury of having a good enough connection to host my own lobby, so I have to rely on people I don't know and who don't know me. Basically, a crap shoot.

This game on PS3 needs more than a patch, it needs a miracle. First, on PS3 it runs at a lower resolution than the xbox 360 (runs at 540p). Also the PS3 version runs at an average of 45FPS. This is beyond terrible. What is even worse is treyarch ignoring the fact that they did this.

Lag Ops/ Beta Ops is beyond playable on the PS3. Rack in a billion dollars, continue to make shit ports.

I hope that treyarch never makes a call of duty.

@Mateen110 I've had very very few problems with Black Ops on my PS3, and I play a ton. I like the patches Treyarch has made (splitscreen with bots is awesome with my bros).

I've only had a couple of problems with our party disbanding, and even then it only takes about 5 seconds to fix anyway.

@Mateen110 umm WTF are you talking about? I play Black Ops on my PS3 with friends almost EVERY SINGLE NIGHT since it came out, and I rarely have any issues at all. Occasionally our Party drops out when loading a map and clearly they are fixing it. And FYI, NEITHER version of Black Ops (PS3 and 360) don't render in HD resolutions. They look almost identical even side by side. I've seen em.

I don't know why PS3 players are complaining and not XBox players. I have it on 360 and I have all of the same issues. The few times I'v been in parties in the game, it's been nothing but trouble. And what about connection issues with no parties?

"50 matches found. Attempting to join 17 possible games... 16... 15...etc... Waiting for infinity for 7 more players to join."

Or how about when you play a game, someone leaves in the lobby, and it says "waiting for x players to join" for infinity?

Or how about when someone leaves a lobby as the game is starting and it gets stuck on "Starting game in 0 seconds?"

I have MW2 and have none of these issues, so I know it's not just me. Maybe these same issues are even MORE prevalent on PS3 than 360, but I can say that they are bad enough on 360 that it's annoying as hell to me. I shouldn't have to "back out and try again" 3 or 4 times to find a game when there are 700,000 people playing.

Whew, I feel better. Well, no, no really. :X

@Levi I haven't even finished the single player campaign yet. The multiplayer pisses me off to no ends. I haven't gotten rid of it yet, but still anytime I play the game for 15 minutes I just end up putting REACH back in. Unfortunately with Medal of Honor sucking hardcore I have no other options for a "modern arcadey" shooter at the moment.

Hmm. You do know that a new patch is news right? Like actual verified fact? As opposed to a bunch of guys on a forum complaining?

Do you know how many articles Joystiq would have to post everyday if they posted every group of complaints from the 360 users, PS3 users, Wii users etc. of every single game?

I never really played Halo except for LANs and splitscreens at friends' houses during 1 and 2, so I can't compare. I can at least compare to MW2, since I played that quite a bit and had none of these issues. Admittedly, I came in after the initial patching, so I didn' experience the javelin glitch or the pre-patched 1887's.

Regardless, I should note that even though the CoD series is like heorin, in that it instills many negative emotions in me (raaage! Withdrawwwlll!!), I still like Blops enough to put up with these connection issues. I should at least be thankful that I didn't buy it on PC as my initial copy.

I have heard people, like GUNNS4HIRE from NextGenTactics, say that there is a certain lag with Treyarch's Call of Duty games, and I haveb't experienced any difference i the way Black Ops controls to MW2... GUNNS is an avid PS3 gamer, so I'm wondering, do you PS3 players get stuck with additional input lag on top of these connection issues or something? I have and love my PS3, but play CoD on my 360, so I wouldn't know. It really sucks to hear about bad ports. It's a shame that one of the platforms, usually the PS3, gets the shaft. Unless a company has the resources to build an engine designed to be multiplatform from the start, like Capcom's engine for Lost Planet 2 and RE5, it seems one of the ports gets the shaft :S

Well, with all that time spent working on 360 exclusive content, who has time for the PS3 version? Seriously though, it is pretty piss poor that in 2010, almost 2011, we still have issues like this. Really does show what takes priority with developers.

This is disheartening, to say the least... Was waiting to have this open for Christmas (to many other games being played at the moment, including WoW...), and I read this crap? I guess as long as the SP is good (which I've read it is, though some seem to disagree one way or another), I'm good. (I have the game sitting in a filing cabinet, waiting to be wrapped...)

Go figure. Maybe if I'd known, or waited more to hear better reviews than the initial ones, I wouldn't have bothered. (Or, I would have gotten it for the PC instead...)

1. frame rate drops really low when people use napalm strikes
2. messed up party.. seems to be fixed now... i hope
3.needs to be better at finding a new host when the host leaves in the middle of the game
4. the online menu graphics start to flash and and at times i get some checkerboard like boxes i on the screen

but besides that i like it alot... they just need to fixed the above asap

I'm enjoying it, despite some minor MP glitches here and there. It's not the worst game I've ever played; I've greatly enjoyed both the single and multi components. I really do like Treyarch's approach to games and I feel like they're a much better company in dealing with their fans, so I will gladly support them into the future.

On a sidenote, here's hoping that in 2011 they'll be developing a bad-@$$ sword-n-sorcery game. ;)

I'm loving the game. I play on ps3 and have only encountered a glitch in MP every now and then. I hardly have any issues.
The MP is fun (wager mode is hectic and intense), zombies is crazy good (love all maps), and the SP has some pretty sweet moments.

I'm starting to think Treyarch just doesn't care or doesn't know what they are doing. They have all these issues that are promised to get fixed (ie your party not making it into the same game, so you have to back out and try again) and yet, no luck. They said they fixed them, but in reality the patch did diddly squat.

@The Commenter Formerly Known as Actually, IW did keep up with MW2, at the beginning. But as alot of people know, alot of people got fired/left the company.. So i could understand why it didnt continue.. Treyarch had ALOT of time to smooth out this game. As much advertisement as they did saying this was gonna be wayyy better then any other CoD game, etc, this game should have been damn near perfect at release.

That has nothing to do with Treyarch/Activision. They won't see a cent of the money coming in from Xbox Live, except in the form of exclusive deals.

Other than that I can't see why they would prioritize patches, the Xbox version also has problems that need to be sorted, as with PC and PS3.
