Full-body mapping isn't new to Kinect -- not even hacking it to control the MikuMikuDance is new. But this isn't the apparent innovation put on display by a Kinect tinkerer known as "Nao_u." The adventurous programmer combines Microsoft's camera sensor with a pair of Vuzix VR920 LCD glasses, allowing a player to see through Miku's eyes (projected in the VR920 head-mounted display), while controlling her in-game actions with body movements registered by Kinect. It's total first-person VR -- J-pop style -- with a $400 add-on!
Feeling confident in his new body, Nao_u steps out onto a precariously placed i-beam (just where did that come from?). High above the sim city, he takes his first, wobbly steps. You can see where this is going (after the break) ...

This would easily give me real-life vertigo. In fact, a lot of games already do when they have you balancing on ropes and pipes way above the ground.

Extended play time on the campaign of killzone 2 makes me nauseated. All that motion blur would make me want to puke if I played longer than 2 hours.

My fear of heights ensures one less sale of any game like that. Hell, I got sick and nervous just watching that video.

They could use this in systematic desensitization therapies for treatment of all kinds of phobias. Afraid of height? No problem, just try sky diving in this ultra-realistic, kinect enabled sky diving simulation. Arachnoid phobia? Pet this virtual tarantula with your virtual hands! Oh the possibilities are endless with regards to applying use to this.

@mmmfishtacos Does anyone know if the glasses work with playstation? The site says it works with computers but that dosnt mean that it won't work on gaming systems .

Microsoft: 'Look! We've invented (well okay, licensed) this incredible new technology that nobody's ever had in their living room before! It will enable all kinds of incredible new types of gameplay that were never before seen on the Xbox 360!'
Prboi: 'Let's use it to make an FPS'
Microsoft: *facepalm*
:)
Anyhow, this is pretty cool, but I think the practical use for something that requires another $400 add-on, in addition to a Kinect, is probably a bit limited. This is kind of like those Wii demos where that guy used remotes backwards with LEDs on glasses to do head tracking - really cool demo, but it was never going to be used in an actual game, and nor is this.

Ahh some of you are so limited in your thinking. If you think Kinect will be limited to just the PC and 360 it's good that you guys are not part of any forward looking group. There is a lot of applications outside of just gaming and do not be surprised when it happens

The glasses aren't 3D though, and it would be even better if they were! I played this virtual reality fps a long time ago that, while it didn't track all of your limbs, it did track head movement much like this, and tracked the gun you were holding. And the goggles were in 3D. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen in my life. Except maybe boobs

Thumbs up for this. A few alterations later, they might even come up with something really close to VR.
