Bulletstorm to feature a mother-hugging profanity filter

It's time once again to play Choose Your Own Analogy! Here's the situation: People Can Fly's Adrian Chmielarz recently addressed concerns about Bulletstorm's frequently obscene dialogue on Twitter, explaining that the game "features optional subtitles, and yes, you can tone the language down if you wish so." (In a followup tweet, Chmielarz suggested one might want to mute the voices and display the profanity in subtitles, say, if the kids could be listening from another room.)

Chmielarz clarified to Joystiq that the game will apparently feature options to tone down "both" the voice-overs and subtitles, though it's as yet unclear if that will entail replacement words or a simple censoring device. If the latter, here's where we play the analogy game: Based on the promotional material we've seen so far, we can't help but feel like playing through Bulletstorm with a dirty word filter on will result in more beeps than a ...

This might be a filter rather than a censor. Much like the PG rated option on the Hot Fuzz DVD that toned down the language. Changing things like Jesus Christ to Peas and Rice. You get the idea. Hilarious.

It would definitely make it worth replaying just to see how silly they can make their hyper-macho game. It'd be a comedy gold mine.

I feel like this could be twice as funny with replacing the nasty words than otherwise, awesome.

wait wait, so let me get this straight, a kid could have the audio cussing turned off but turn on the subtitles and see all the cusswords in the game?? why even have a filter??

I don't really have a problem with profanity as much as awful lines like, "Pull up your skirt, and strap that dildo on!" The game looks like a lot of fun, but I hate the game's attitude.

if ure not allowed to play cos of bad language, then u shouldnt b playing this game anyway.

Love these optional filters on games. Anything that gives gamers with families (like me!) the ability to play more around the fam is helpful.

They should bleep out the words, that way we can take a shot everytime there is a beep, and make it a really fun game

I sure hope "Mr. Falcon" makes it in Bulletstorm.
