"We feel that there are ... a lot of people in Japan who own nothing but 360s,"

That quote sounds like hes trying to comfort himself more than anyone else.

He's trying to justify making a multiplatform release out of something trumpeted as a PS3 exclusive in japan. Everyone in japan that wanted it bought it on PS3, the people that own only a 360, bought it for western titles like splinter cell and gears or halo. They're the minority in japan that doesnt care about RPGs or games based on the new hit anime. The people with xboxes are people who actually WANT to play online enough to pay for it, and that's what those sales reflect.

Well he said he was "contemplating" suicide. Who knows if he actually committed it. What an overreacting article. They have no evidence of the fact and likely posted it for attention. Clearly whoever thought that was "news" hasn't been to the GameFAQs boards. This happens everyday.

FF13 does that normally. You just hold up on the joystiq and press A every now and then in battles.

But honestly, I didn't think this game was THAT bad. Of course, I only paid 30 bucks for it, so that MAY have affected my perception of the game.

Within a month of the PS3 version coming out in Japan everyone had already decided they hated it and prices on the game had completely cratered.

Coming out a year after that on a system with almost zero installed base does not seem like a good business decision. But that's been Square-Enix for quite a while now.

Think of it this way, FF 13 still did a hell of a lot better than Front Mission: (d)Evolved, that game tanked within the first few days, and had a 50% price cut for new copies really fast from what I've heard. Hell, you could buy the game practically new for $5-6 on several sites state-side.

Well, my obvious "Game is good, just horribly paced" aside, I'm not surprised.

Anyone who wanted the game got it already over there. Install base for Sony is higher by what, a factor of 1000? Graphically, PS3 does have an edge of the 360 in some areas, and well... if they had released this version on the PS3 again, with the added stuff (maybe a new dungeon or ending thing) I'm sure it would of sold a hell of a lot more.

But, I wouldn't call the sales horrible. For all we know, there could only be 30,000 Xbox 360s actually being played there, so hey, that 22-23k is a pretty big chunk of that.

I tend to agree with several folks here. It's going to be a hard enough sale for FF13 in japan but selling it a year after the ps3 release is ridiculous if you think you will see any powerful sales.

If they wanted to see any form of good sales figures, They should have released it along side the ps3 version with some added extras to attract those who have a 360 to venture for it.

@Mr Esc is the namesarcasm is my

The irony being, a remake of FFVII would probably make them a fortune. They'd save on a lot of production areas too as all the prep work (art, story, etc...) is done.

i didn't think FFXIII was terrible. it started off fricken slow and i hated all the hand holding (why did it take half the game for me to be able to pick my own characters?) but once you got to the open world and side quests i actually had alot of fun with it. i did stop playing for a while but i was really glad i decided to finish it. hopefully they fix that in XV and make it more like the old ones.

@Liquidfingers Because they fancy themselves an conquering entity. They want to control and dominate the market entirely just like they think they do with PCs and they can't do that if Japan continues to resist them. To that end they spend money hand over fist, how do you think they took the lead in North america? not by being thrifty, they did it by buying every inch of notoriety they legally could.

Funny enough, they got more money then exclusives. So they buy timed DLC.

Sony says screw Timed/buying DLC and makes good first party games.

Square has already stated that the price of FF7 remake would be a lot higher than people like to think. The general plot may already be written but we're talking about added voice overs, motion capture for cinemas, writing new game elements and none of that even covers the new art assets they need to make. If you want a cheap remake then at best it'd probably be a portable game, if you want the version you think it deserves on a console then it's going to take several years and lots of money.

You're right about added costs of voice acting but I meant they'd save money in other areas where the core work is done. I wouldn't expect, or want, a cheap and quick remake but I do think they'd make a far healthier profit on it than they seem to be with FFXIII, for example.

I agree with the posters.

The game was not received well after release, the critics and community hammered it with tehir opinion, and you are selling to a much smaller install base that will not generate nearly as much sales as the PS3 launch.

At least it is now out there, but it would have been more beneficial to have done this earlier.

My first comment was lost.

I would say I am in agreement with the crowd. Due to releasing the game long after PS3, having a much smaller install base, and users' opinions being generally non-favorable.

Either way, Happy Holidays everyone!

Why, oh, why, do they always label these "special" re-releases as "Ultimate Hits Final Mix Uncut Super International" if they have nothing to do with inter-nationality and are always Japan exclusive?

(And not because just some included foreign voice tracks or features)

The international version in Japan means that they are playing the version the rest of the world played. Japan usually gets the game first and it's improved for the other regions (FFX was much better in europe then Japan/North America) so FFX-Internation had the sphere grid from the european game.
