Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Achievements tease progression system, Mission mode

Given the slow, slow drip its developers have had us on since the game was first announced, the recent release of the Achievement list for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 represents one of the biggest info bombs we've been hit with so far. While the list doesn't do much to confirm any rumored characters (though the "Fate of the Satsui no Hadou" certainly seems to hint at the inclusion of Ryu's near-clones, Ken and Akuma), it does reveal some features which have made it into the final cut of the game.

For instance, the "Combat Specialist" Achievement mentions a player level progression system, while "A New Avenger" and "Passed the Field Test" reference a Mission mode, which will presumably assist in the aforementioned progression system. Passed the Field Test (20G) -- Clear 160 missions in Mission mode.
A New Avenger (40G) -- Clear 320 missions in Mission mode.
Welcome to Avengers Academy! (10G) -- Clear 80 missions in Mission mode.
Leading the Charge (30G) -- Surpass the rank of Fighter.
Combat Specialist (30G) -- In Ranked Match, surpass the "1st" class rank, or fight someone who has.
Comic Collector (50G) -- Unlock all items in the Gallery.
Back at 'Cha! (10G) -- Perform 10 successful Crossover Counters. (Arcade/Xbox LIVE only)
Excelsior! (10G) -- Perform 10 Team Aerial Combos. (Arcade/Xbox LIVE only)
Be Gone! (10G) -- Perform 10 Snap Backs. (Arcade/Xbox LIVE only)
Mega Buster (20G) -- Use 1,000 Hyper Combo Gauge bars. (Arcade/Xbox LIVE only)

I don't know what the roster total is up to, but I've been waiting for a Vs. game that threw pretty much every character out there into a single game...and this might be the closest thing we get to that.

And I've gotta say, after hearing the game was going to be polygons instead of sprites, I was really sad....but it looks great; they've done a great job so far on the graphics and it's not an eyesore like I thought it might be. (Though I'd still prefer sprites because I'm more of an old school fan like that.)

@zero2dash I kinda wish they were sprites as well, a mvc with grpahics of blazblue= instant gasm. oh well, at least theyre finally making a third one.

MvC2 was the only one without unique endings wasn't it?
I remember getting different endings depending on who I beat the game with in XvSF, MvSF, and MvC

I am still hoping for a Smash Brothers style story....that 'view all endings' achievement is worrisome...

Don't the "Darkstalkers" and "Weapon X" achievements mean there's another Darkstalkers and another X-Men character in there? Or maybe I'm missing something...

If X23 and Daken are in there, that would be the team.

We need another Darkstalker (most likely Hsien-Ko), but Wolverine, Deadpool, and X-23 would fill out the Weapon X team.

If you're referring to the Weapon X achievement, Wolverine, Deadpool, and X-23 were all part of the program in way form or another.

Don't know if they've already been announced or not, but they definitely need to have Sabertooth and a nice bonus would be Lady Deathstrike.

@RDX I hope for Donovan and/ or Hsien-Ko. Both underappreciated, underused characters

Rogue could only fly because she had completely absorbed Ms. Marvel's powers. Since Ms. Marvel took them back in the comics Rogue can't fly anymore. However I would not be opposed to them adding Rogue with Ms. Marvel's powers intact.

Because XBox doesn't have a platinum Trophy type of thing. I know Arkham Assylum had a 100% complete cheevo, but you had to get all the others to get it, too.

Well, you could play arcade mode excessively. most of the achievements can be gotten there or via live.

Ahem... I quit reading comic books when I was about 16 and back then (10 years ago) I already realised that EVERY event in the Marvel universe accounts to nothing after a while since the status quo is always returned.

So, if you still waste your time with it, you should have gotten used to excessive retconning in order to "change everything back" by now.

Spider-Man comics? They were retconning the Clone Saga. How worse can it get?

I hope they do DLC characters like Rock Band has DLC, i will be broke so quick, but Iwould love the idea of keeping characters i like, and not having the others, like collectables kinda.

That would be a cool idea, although I'm sure it'd be very hard to balance a fighting game like that.

@tstorm It would be sooo worth it to me. If the game does get so unbalanced they could have two different online modes one for those who have no DLC and those who wish to use it.

DLC is a must.

That would be pretty cool, although I'd still probably buy them all, unless they're characters I really hate, like a Seth/Mr. Fantastic pack. Although I hope the game is pretty balanced, I really don't expect it to be, and I'd rather have more characters in the long run.

I don't get why the models for the fighters look so bad. It almost looks like the same people that ruined Turtles in Time in that remake, except not quite as bad.

So whats it take for capcom to dig in their library a little deeper for some games. Why no Power Stone characters, Breath of Fire characters, Monster Hunter characters, etc?
