Soulcalibur series returns to the stage of history

Daishi Odashima, Soul Calibur IV designer, opened a Twitter account on Christmas day, offering the following tease as his gift to fans of the weapons-based fighter series: "SC is BACK! Get ready, fans!" To prove he was serious, he included a picture of himself at his desk, with a drawing of the Soul Calibur sword.

With a new Soul Calibur now in the works, that officially brings the number of franchise fighting games on the way from Namco Bandai to three, including Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken vs. Street Fighter. Thanks for this fighting game renaissance, Street Fighter IV!

Something needs to change with this game. I like the franchise, but every game is a little less impressive than the one before it.

I'd just like a good revival of the Quest Mode from SC2. Unlocking goofy weapons by traveling through goofy grid maps and fighting under goofy circumstances was great fun.

Fighting under goofy circumstances is all they've held on to, though.

You know a developer has plenty of milk in his cereal when he's taking a picture of himself drawing stuff for a new game.

Digging the big-ass Soul Calibur behind him.

I liked Soul Calibur 4 it was almost as good as Tekken 4.
Hopefully this will be as good!

Two things I want to know about SC V:

1. Who will be the guest characters this time?
2. Can the female character's boobs get any bigger?

@harusame Yes they can. It's the one field Namco doesn't disappoint with. It's just a matter of how big the harvest is gonna be. Reminds me of the story of Powergirl: Apparently her creator had a plan to increase her cup size every issue until somebody noticed.

You have interesting questions... but for boobs is better you look to DoA side!

My questions is:
1 - Will I fight people that uses only 1 button and not have hard times to beat it, even as a noob?
2 - Does finally Cervantes is oficially dead and will not be playable?
3 - I will see that amazing Sophitia's throw again? (amazing, really amazing...)

And looking to the Tekken VS SF... I still can't imagine Ryu without hadouken, sorry...

I really just want this one to be good...I haven't really enjoyed an SC game since SC2

Alright, lets hear one thing about this game and I'll be happy.

Take stats off the god-dang custom-character armor. I don't want to be punished by having a character with half a bar of health and low attack, just because I wanted them to look a certain way.

@DevilSei If you don't like the stas just play normal matches not special ones. Story mode and the tower had armour stats but arcade didn't.

@JeicenBurter The special characters only seem to be there to break the game horribly or be unplayable.

So.... are they going to try and make the busts of the female fighters even larger? Will they try to make DOA completely jealous?

Fruity wear asides, I hope custom characters are more custom this time. at least add stats to specific attacks so it doesn;t show how much your character is really a bodyswap for Mitsurugi.

Yeah. I had always dreamed of creating characters in a fighting game and was initially in love with the feature in SC3, but it wore thin quickly.

Its certainly no replacement for SC2's quest mode. There's also something intrinsic to character selection in a fighting game. Knowing who your opponent's character is and roughly what they're capable is huge. That's heavily diminished with custom characters.

There was such a satisfying sense of progress in SC2, too...

SC needs to bring back the Conquest mode from SC2 Arcade! That was epic.

Awesome, SC rocks, but none of them have been as good as soul calibur II. Fighting as Link was so awesome. Maybe another awesome guest character for the Xbox version...

So, now that the whole "Edge" licensing bs is done with, does that mean we can finally get a Soul Edge series going?

I just want the campaign mode from SC III to come back. That was my favorite part of the series and the only thing that got me to play a fighting game, since I don't usually care for them. It added a story and RPG elements to playing, rather than just fighting a list of people. Can't remember what the mode was called, though.

1. if you are referring to the weapon sets from part 3, like the sword and giant shuriken, the second whip sword, the dual nunchaku, then GOOD GAWD YES WHY THE FK DID THEY EVER TAKE IT OUT
