Choice Mass Effect 2 DLC discounted on Xbox Live today
68
If you've been holding out for the inevitable "Game of the Year Edition" of Mass Effect 2 to get the DLC, you'd best look away. As part of the "Countdown to 2011" promotion on Xbox Live, all three of the game's mission add-ons -- "Lair of the Shadow Broker," "Overlord" and "Kasumi - Stolen Memory" -- have been slashed to just 200 Microsoft Points ($2.50) each, for discounts ranging from 64–75 percent off today only.
But maybe you'd rather spend tonight watching someone in a movie control another person, as if it were a video game? The Zune Marketplace totally has Gamer on sale for 960 points today, as well. Finally!

2011 Holiday Wish: Microsoft getting rid of this stupid points sytem.

Between this and the Steam Holiday Sale, I've been buying a ton of games lately. And pleasantly enough, it's not been that big a hit to my wallet either. Can't wait to dig into the DLC.

@Mr Lingo
Very nice. =)
And to add to the list, I just picked up Machinarium and PB Winterbottom earlier this morning for a whopping total of $3.50. I almost feel guilty paying that little, haha.

I'm downloading the 3 Mass Effect 2 DLC as we speak. Never thought I fall in love with this game.

I snagged Lair of the Shadow Broker but I passed on the other two. From what I've read, Overlord and Kasumi are shorter, right?

@The Tim
The Kasumi story felt a bit like filler to go with a new character, but the mission style was a nice change of pace. Overlord, however, was very well done. Not as good as the Shadow Broker DLC, but well worth full price. But like Demaar said, both are a steal at $2.50.

@fohf I used Kasumi quite a few times in the rest of the game after I did her DLC/story. If you get her in the right situation in your squad on a mission, she can be absolutely deadly.

@The Tim re: 20 GB to 250 GB. At least you can do that. Microsoft are only selling the new Slim hard drives in 250 GB size in New Zealand. I have no choice but to try and source one for the original 360 from overseas. MS are really shafting earlier adopters of the 360 and assuming everyone has upgraded to the Slim.

Though I haven't started ME2 yet, since I am now getting on ME. It's quite nice to know I saved some money on these DLC and help expand my playthrough of ME2.

I wouldn't mind points being abolished, so long as the still sold the pre-paid cards. The one saving grace of the current set up is that you don't NEED to have a credit card on file if you don't want to. The fact that points can't be used for Windows Phone games is the the sole reason I don't own half of the XBLA catalogue released for it...

Oh, shit! Done and done! I already bought Kasumi, but I'm so glad I waited on the other two!

@bargaingamer The DLC sale for Alan Wake a few days back, was just as good.
Overall, this Countdown to 2011 promotion that Microsoft has going on, is the dog's balls. I've purchased more non-Indie Game related downloadable content in the past few days, than I have all year.
I've picked up all the DLC for Red Dead Redemption at half price. Picked up Castlevania: Harmony or Despair, Castle Crashers, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Hydro Thunder Hurricane, all the DLC for Alan Wake, all the DLC for Mass Effect 2 . . . all at HUGE discounts. And theirs still even more to go as New Years approaches.
Over the last couple of weeks, between this, Steam, the Humble Indie Bundle 2, and the Games+Music Indie bundles, I am rolling in the downloadable content enough to last me months.

Yes! Been waiting for "Shadow Broker" to go on sale for a while now. The only downside is that I probably need to start over in order to really enjoy these since I'm so far removed from my last playthrough that I don't even remember what the controls are for this game.

When I got home last night the price for Shadow Broker was 200. That was around 10pm. The prices for the other DLC said 200 as well but when I to purchase them they were still listed at 560.

@Chunkymouth Dont buy one piece of dlc until the deals to the new year are finished. It's good habit to check the dashboard for any hint of a deal especially when news of it's sequel is coming out on a regular basis. They discount dlc to get support for new games and sequels.

I just checked my points balance and, apparently, I got it for 200 after all. I could've sworn the screen showed a price of 800 at the time. My day just got a little brighter.

Is this it for ME2 DLC? I've been waiting until the DLC's done for my next playthrough so I can get a definitive-type experience. Also, I don't have time to be replaying Mass Effect 2 every couple months.
