I wonder if Nintendo is hosting this Nintendo World with such focus on 3DS (and altogether announced it at last years E3 so suddenly) in order to clear way for the headlining announcement of Wii2 at this years E3?

No price for the US yet but it'll probably be between 250 and 300.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Whoa, how did I not know about this? Almost worth buying a 3DS for alone.

@jchan - Ocarina was the final seller for me. Starfox, Kid Icarus, Resident Evil and MGS were just shock-and-awe moments, one after another.

I hope Ocarina isn't just a graphical overhaul, but they add in a ton of other stuff (things they cut from the original) in a secondary playthrough/non-canonical way.

Why would Ocarina of Time get you? Is it not the same game you've played numerous times, just with a 3D effect added?

Not just 3D, but enhanced graphics with tons more detail than its original form. It's enough to make even the smallest fan of the game squee.

Or in your case, probably not :P

Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D "The Naked Sample"

I don't see a *. That's really the official title of the game? Can they even fit that on a game box?

Yes, Kojima confirmed that it will be an actual game, but probably not a launch title.

@Poor Tom

"The Naked Sample" is the title of the on-show demo.

"Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D" is the name of the actual game being released and will be developed from scratch rather than just a direct port.

Nintendo, if you're listening... if you release a 3D F-Zero X with slightly improved graphics, you have all the money that can fit in Soundwave's cassette player. And that's one HUGE cassette player, man!

I prefer it that way. Do you know how many people a Xbox game with a PS game, or a PS2 with a PS3 game, or even a PS2 console with a PS3 one just because the name is not clear enough to make a difference?

That's a dumb statement. Which system do you remember as having a stellar launch lineup? Remember when the 360 just had Call of Duty 2 and Kameo? Remember when the PS3 had ... uh ... did they actually launch that with any games?

Well, unlike any current-gen consoles, the Xbox and Gamecube both launched with at least one killer app (Halo and Super Smash Bros. Melee, respectively). But yeah, I don't think there's ever been a system launch lineup quite as robust and varied as this.

The Gamecube didn't launch with Super Smash Bros. Melee. Melee released about a month later.

Gamecube had Luigi's Mansion. That was a great game, despite the criticism it recieved because it was the only mario-related release game and didn't hold a candle to the platforming genre.

Wow most of the list is rehashes and remakes of old games. Is Nintendo creatively bankrupt these days? Are people dumb enough re-buy the same thing over and over again with an added gimmick? I guess we'll all see how it pans out in March 2011.

As much as I've enjoyed the DS' lineup, this is one of the most unimpressive lineups I've ever seen. It's full of ports, remakes, and 3D iterations of popular Nintendo IPs. And they're using the Pilotwings name on a port of Wii Sports Resort, which should show how far they're going to get as much content out for this system to avoid the first year slump that the DS had at first.

Handheld launch/first-year lineups consisting primarily of ports and spinoffs is hardly a new trend. Just look at what came out for the GBA, DS and PSP in their early days (hell, this is still the majority of the PSP's library). Besides, working with familiar IPs allows developers to experiment with the capabilities of the system in a safe context, and what they learn can hopefully then be applied to more original games. And between a launch lineup consisting of tons of enhanced ports and remakes (and a few sequels), and a launch lineup consisting of one or two such games and otherwise low-budget garbage, which would you prefer?
