Gamestop and Toys R Us offering Pokemon download promos next month

If your six-strong roster in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver could use a little sparkle, a little pizazz, a little shimmer -- any of that stuff, a handful of download promotions slated for early next year should satisfy your needs quite well. You can download rare, shiny versions of legendary monsters Raikou, Entei and Suicine during various week-long periods in January at Gamestop. Check out the schedule of their availability after the jump, and plan your retail excursions accordingly.

If you're looking for something a little more plain Jane, you can pick up Ash's Pikachu -- a version of the iconic lightning mouse with a special set of abilities -- at Toys R Us between January 30 and February 5. Don't get it twisted, though; this guy starts out at level 50. This isn't the adorable mascot you came to know and love in the anime series. This Pikachu is a hardened killing machine.

how does this work exactly? do you hand your DS to an associate or use mystery gift on their wifi connection or what? i always see these events but i never understood how they worked. i wish they were like that recent Mew giveaway, that was nice just logging onto the mystery gift.

Thank goodness for SoCoolCurt! This is definitely my biggest question, too. I've been taunted by the Official Guides that some legendaries are only available at events, but having never been to one, I'd love to know how this all goes down.

Ps. I caught a Roselia shiny the last time I fired up Platinum. It took me many, many hours to get the combos right.

Why not just release them publicly instead of at stores?

2 questions...

1.) Will the three legendaries be available at every GameStop location, or just select ones? I've never done one of these location-specific events, I'm not sure how they work.

2.) How the hell do I upload a picture? I've tried using different filetypes and sizes, just now tried a 64x64 jpeg. I've been at it for an hour, this is ridiculous.

Can we have a list of participating GameStops?

Yay! Free pokemans! I have a question though: Can I get these using my copy of pokemon diamond? I bought SoulSilver but haven't finished it yet. :(

Pretty sure you don't have to have finished the game. You just need to have the pokedex so that you can use the Mystery Gift function.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Japan got the 3 shiny Legendary Beasts months ago, and they're supposed to open up something special in Black and White when you send them over. If I'm right, these should be the same.

Ya it says on the Nintendo HGSS website that if you trade these to BW then you'll be able to catch a special pokemon otherwise unavailable.
