Whether it's due to its significant lack of collectible monsters, or the considerable length of time since the last installment in the Parasite Eve franchise, Square Enix's The 3rd Birthday didn't have the strong debut showing on the Japanese sales charts to which the publisher is likely accustomed. The game placed sixth on the weekly Media Create rankings, pulling in 140,000 during its first week on Japanese store shelves.
The game was buried under continuing top-sellers Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which placed first with 404,000 units sold, and Pokémon Black and White, whose 165,000 units sold pushed the twin titles dangerously close to the five million mark. That's a whole lot of monochromatic monsters.

Well, I'm probably going to buy a copy, if only to hope in vain that we'll get the Aya costume for Lightning in Dissidia 2

I've never played a Parasite Eve game before, but this looks really interesting and I hope to pick it up when comes NA. In other words, hurry up SE!

Hell yea for monster hunter. I just wish it was as popular over here as it is in japan. I don't think many gamers here like putting in the time and effort to figure out the weapon calcs and combos for each monster etc.

Considering there hasn't been a Parasite Eve game in over 10 years I'd say 6th is a pretty decent showing.

Well I guess even in Japan they are finally taking notice to Square not giving a crap about quality anymore. You guys remember when all it took was the squaresoft logo for us to buy their games?

@Doctor Doom Well it has been a while already, only the seeing FF, DQ and KH will make people buy their games. Square Soft is dead but it has reborn under Mistwalker and i like Lost Odyssey, need to play Blue Dragon and can't wait for Last Story/
@Takao Can't say Square Enix is a beast on every handheld game, there are some exception. If you notice, original IP game released by Square Enix didn't sell much in Japan and that included The World End with You. If anything, Square is a beast with anything that have FF, DQ and KH in the name of the game, console and portable.

@Guts
Can we get some confirmation on this being a "straight shooter"? If so, man... I am gonna have to pass.
