Honestly didn't see that coming.

I personally loved this game! Poured tons of hours into it

AC: Brotherhood was my first foray into the AC series...

I love the online! Maybe a bit too much, as i've yet to even try the single player campaign.

@neftones

don't get me wrong, I'm eager to play the SP part of the game, but i've never felt as much tension and paranoia in a multiplayer game in my life...

the subtle changes in the music, the voices, that feeling that anyone one of these people in the crowd could poison you, or stab you, or come down from the rooftops...

Had the game since xmas and am close to level 50 already. Once I "beat" the MP, I'll take my time playing the campaign.

I played the multiplayer for the first time last night and it was a blast ... when I could actually get into a game, that is. Also, it seems like teammates that aren't complete r*tards is a huge plus. We played one game where some dude on our team was just running around the whole time so he was super easy to spot and this is just one of those games where there's a right and a wrong way to play.

I played the multi for the first time last night too! PSN: scratchh
Although I always just hit "play now" it seems like all I got were manhunt, no teams. But I certainly saw lots of ppl who clearly had no idea how to play.

My GOTY for sure, and ive only just started playing it. But then I don't get to play many games. Looking forward to picking up Mass Effect 2 when it releases on PS3 next month. Probably have to trade off with AC:B for my limited game time.

This is one choice i disagree with. AssCreed BroHood is an amazing game, but the 4th best game of the year? No....Just...No. Swap Heavy Rain with this and then itll be more accurate.

@Billlop I actually think I concur with you. This is a good game. Great even. But even with all its faults, no scene in this game had my heart racing as much as the choices in Heavy Rain.

Still, this is a game top ten for sure. I would rank it in about 7th or 6th. Not a far drop, but more a credit to games like limbo and heavy rain.

Keep in mind that the playstyle of those two games are what appealed to me, I fully realize there are those that perfer this game, and I can easily conceed the quality of the game. It was a surprise hit for me too, I thought it was going to be a cheesy multiplayer and it came out as a great game with even a solid single player mode.

I am glad that Joystik is getting sick of tacked on multiplayer as much as I am though. Some games are made for it, some just arent.

Whatever your thoughts for Brotherhood, I can't possibly disagree more that Heavy Rain deserves to be anywhere on this list. It's an overrated Playstation Home game of above-average writing with horrible gameplay.

Heavy Rain shouldn't even be in the top ten, in my opinion. The only people in love with the story either watch only Michael Bay movies or don't read books which is kind of annoying since Heavy Rain's story is essentially a sixth grade reading-level choose your own adventure novel. In fact, the only excuse for liking it that literate people lay claim to is the fact that "it does something different" which is a pretty lame reason to like anything. I can make myself into a zucchini bread and chipped beef sandwich with eggplant slices, cottage cheese, and extra ketchup, and that would be "different" as f*ck, but that doesn't mean I would be any good.

Micheal Bay and stories(story-lines) is a double negative.
Heavy Rain is not for everyone, but to say what you just said was profoundly dumb.

The character physics, movement, engine, everything are almost identical to Playstation Home. All they really did was add a few contextual gameplay controls and cutscenes, and call it a day. This is not a game anyone will remember for being easy to control, especially for people who actually played it through the tunnel maze.

Now hyperbole offends you? But I take it that you must be joking because someone stupid enough to misspell the word "sandwhich" (especially when said word is spelled correctly right in front of his face) couldn't possibly feel justified in calling someone else an idiot. Also, you clearly lost the argument for Heavy Rain since you can't actually defend your opinion and have to resort to name-calling.

Interesting fact: Ubisoft made an app for the iDevices a while back, which I now see was a testing phase for the AC:B online mode. It was a top-down multiplayer AC game that, despite its technical flaws, was a helluva lot of fun to play.

Heavy Rain and AC:B are the main retail games I played this year, so I though I had to comment here; just my opinion of course.

I really enjoyed Heavy Rain. While it had plenty if faults, it made a tense emotionally involved game. It's not just that "it's different," it's how it's different. By getting the player so emotionally invested; if it worked on the player... maybe that's where all the difference in opinion comes from. Who here has kids and who doesn't?
That said, it had too many flaws take top honors.

AC:B, on the other hand, took an existing and liked gameplay mechanic an polished it to the highest possible luster. And then added a new amalgam of multiplayer experiences to create something unique and highly entertaining as well.
For me, this puts AC:B at the very top, while HEavy Rain gets basically an honorable mention at the bottom of the list.

Was jut playing this.

The multiplayer is genius in how it relies on you to define a human and their psychology. Now that right there, friends, is just plain awesome.

The single player is so well-developed, and highly engrossing, even if I do wish they kept some really cool aspects of the first game.

Terrific job, Ubisoft. I--we--love Assassin's Creed.

The game is definitely addictive, and hell of fun to play, but the story was nowhere near as good as ACII. Ezio was already fully developed, so there really wasn't much more to tell for his story. The Desmond story was pretty cool, though.

I was skeptical of the multiplyr, tried it, now I'm addicted. Most intense, engrossing game online I've played in a long time. I love the lure, There is nothing like standing in a group of dopplegangers, and watching someone stab a clone, then watching them get pounced on from someone just casually walking by.

glad it got on one goty list. the multiplayer is amazing. its so fun having to decide who the opponent is instead of worrying that i will be sniped or hit with a cheap grenade throw.

I think this is a well deserved accolade. The single player is smooth and refined, and shows that some publishers can actually improve their games and learn from their mistakes - unlike most people, I absolutely hated AC1. It was a good idea but I thought that it was made poorly. I could see why other liked playing it, but it just didn't seem well made to me at all. AC2 I was pleasantly surprised at. They dramatically improved the game in all manners. ACB takes the next step and cleans it up even more.
Critiquing it though, I enjoy the multiplayer immensely and love that it isn't your standard deathmatch and capture the flag variants, but I have one heck of a time getting in a game. Solo I do just fine. With friends there always seems to be issues. I think the party system needs patching and the menu should allow you to back out of the game after a match without losing your party. But I trust Ubi will make the improvements in time, and doubly so by the next game release.

Having played 1 2 and now BC, I enjoyed the game, but don't like the way the story was told. You can, theoretically, spend the whole middle 90% of the game in the Aneimius. With number 1 you were always in and out, and I felt that really gave more suspense to the stories. With number 2 there were still times when it forced you out to progress the (present) story.

But with this, its opening cutscene, playthrough, final cutscenes. Maybe I just like the present day story more than all the missions, but I don't think this is a top 5 game. Like mentioned above, top 10 for sure, but for me, I give it around a number 7.

I have been unable to finish the game after putting in over 10 hours due to the "Animus bug".

It's upsetting because it's ruined what was a shaping to be one of my favorite gaming experiences in a long time.

I'm up to over two weeks now of being unable to play a game that I paid $60 for and no patch has been released yet.
