'Gears of War Ultimate' coming in February for $30, retail listing says

The Gears of War franchise is no stranger to re-releases, having "Platinum" and "Game of the Year" collections across its two titles so far. However, it appears Microsoft is planning one more re-release, tentatively titled Gears of War Ultimate, according to a GameStop listing spotted by IGN. Pegged with a February 15th date, Ultimate has a $29.99 price tag.

Although the listing has since been removed, a Microsoft representative confirmed plans for a "forthcoming bundle SKU," suggesting that Ultimate is, at the very least, a compilation of the two Gears of War games. Don't expect to see any Gears of War 3-related content, though. The representative confirmed "it will not involve Gears of War 3 or the beta." You'll have to pick up Bulletstorm instead if you want entry into the beta.

Gears is a sad story for me. I would absolutely love it if I could play it without lag but unfortunately I can't. Before anyone says it's perfect, it's not. Epic even reduced the player count to 4v4 after a few months because they couldn't fix the problem.

The campaign was great but that wasn't the reason why I preordered Gears. I only preorder games if I'm getting into the multiplayer. If it is a singleplayer experience I can wait for a price drop.

The network problems are also the only reason why I'm not looking forward to Gears 3 at all because I have no faith in Epic anymore though they sparked a little hope when they announced dedicated servers.

@lacke It's not perfect, but it's perfectly playable for almost everyone. Epic continue to support it with TU's and it only got better.

There's always someone complaining about lag, the game plays absolutely fine now.

What online game doesn't have lag.. for a decent game you need all players in a game to in local geologically.. or at least have the host in the same country as you.. Even with dedicated servers, players who live near the server will have an advantage... far as I'm aware, nearly all the "western" servers are in the US

Actually, Gears started out with 4v4.
Gears 2 increased the limit to 5v5.

Last time I gave Gears 2 another shot I could have sworn they looking for 4v4 games. Just checked and you're right it's 5v5. I always play ranked games too. Clearly you seem to have a better knowledge of this and I apologize for my previous wrong statement.

Please, give me more credit than that. I'm not talking about a little lag but rubber banding and it took a while to even find a game. Yes, my NAT is open, I can get a decent ping (50ms) in most (PC) games and while playing COD (360) I'm often selected as host.

Excellent single player experience for all those Kinect Xmas bundle buyers as they start to branch out and see what serious gamers play, without the fear of online noobing..
Maybe Microsoft is taking the trilogy boxset options from Sony, here's looking forward to Halo bundles soon enough.

Every soccer mom family has a father/hubby whom may not have had the budget to influence the introduction of a Xbox into the home. Also kids grow up to be Teens.. So yes every soccer mom family also has a hard core side.

@PR0F3TA If you do a text search on this page for "complete" the first result is your post, the second will be mine, and at the time I'm typing this, that will be it. You're the one calling it that, not them. I'm not sure what you think this is, but it's clearly just a bundle to get new people into the series before Gears 3 comes out.

to defend louiedog, it only says "the complete collection" in the image because i'm pretty sure joystiq used a picture of the final edition of the original gears of war that came with a second disc including all of the downloadable multiplayer maps.

I got into the first Gears for a while. Really liked it, and now I'm now I'm getting interested in going old school with the first Gears-- that is, if you can call 2006 old school.

Read about this the other day on Gamekyo. However they were saying Gears of War Ultimate was rumored to have some Kinect support. Perhaps a few gimmicky executions.

Oddly enough their website is down. I wonder if there was any truth to that. Unlikely though.

Epic, will you kindly release this for PC so I may finally be able to play GOW2 on the PC platform? I don't count on it since you are now whores of Microsoft and the Xbox platform since being die-hard PC developers in the 90's but I'd appreciate it, thanks.

GOW2 just became good. there were so many f'n TU's it was laughable. I really hope it doesn't take Epic this long to make GOW3 worth a shit.

i may pick something like this up. i loved the first one but traded it in for some reason and never got around to playing the 2nd one. i feel guilty about not playing my Xbox since my PS3 gets so much play so this sounds right up my alley. Gears is an awesome series, especially in co-op.

Ya, it'll be both Gears games with all DLC. I play Gears 2 online everyday and have no problems that any other games such as CoD and Reach wouldn't have. And the guy who said they made it 4v4 to stop lag is wrong. They do events all the time and that was a Gears 1 throwback, for a single day. That's why I love Epic, they are always talking to the community and doing something fun with their games. Epic could have let the game's MP stay awful, but they worked hard years on it to fix it and I give them credit for that.

Gears 2 had DLC with an extra level which i never got to play because GoW DLC is not avaible on german Xbox Live

if this all can be answered with yes i might think about importing this disk AGAIN.

I expect the Multiplayer maps will be included aswell.

What we as gamers tend to forget more often than not is that there are always new gamers coming to the table. For those people who just now got an Xbox 360 for Christmas this bundle will be nice for those who have wanted to play the series. You could buy both games used for less than the retail of $30 for this package, but I think the value is in the DLC that is (I assume they put it in there, it would be stupid if they didn't) included with this.

I know I've had to step back a few times from my initial reaction of "wtf?" to an announced bundle but then I figure that it's more for the new guys than me.

Not a bad deal, but you can get Gears 1 for $5-$10 these days if you look on the internet. Gears 2 can be had for $15-20. I'd rather not own the 2 games in some hokey "collection" pack, but it's still not a bad deal.

Sweet, I'm going to get this. I played through the first 2 levels of Gears 1, loved it but had to return it to Blockbuster, and I've been wanting to play Gears 2 ever since it came out. The only problem is that I'm going to have to play through Gears 1 before I get to Gears 2, otherwise if I start with 2 I may get spoiled and not want to play through 1.
