We were tempted to make a joke about avoiding the unnecessary risk of overheating your Xbox 360 when we saw this video for Nick Carouso's "XToaster360" -- a toaster gutted and turned into a custom console -- but that's a little stale. The case mod is currently up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of $150 ... so we're assuming there's no Valhalla inside. (There's also no hard drive -- just the ability to use USB thumb drives.)
While the XToaster is still pretty neat, what with its blue LEDs and novelty factor, there are a couple of other issues with the design: For one, it doesn't actually make toast. Also, Carouso kept the disc drive horizontal, missing the opportunity to insert a game through one of the toaster's bagel-accommodating slots. Maybe he was worried about it ejecting early -- or worse: jamming?

If it doesn't load games in the bread lids (like the Nintoaster), I don't see all that fuzz about it.

@Asakura H That's what I came in to say. It's still a really friggin cool looking mod, but it loses the appeal of putting the game in the toaster like a piece of bread. And even tho the blue LED's look great, red LED's are more appropriate for a toaster mod IMO.

@Asakura H I see what you're saying, but it's a toaster, and the coils that heat up to toast the bread turn orange-red. That's why I was saying red.
It's a cool looking mod, but it just doesn't make much sense as a toaster. Still, I wish I had half the electronics experience this guy has. I'd love to mod, but the few times I've tried, I'm reminded that I know basically nothing and I'm willing to spend hardly any money. :/

Crumbs those are poor jokes. Not only are they stale but the bread-th of puns are thin. Your pay cheque for this month should probably be sliced due to this poor showing.

Now I can eat my toast in the morning and swag with my xbox.
Oh what a glorious day, that even the Greys from outer space is eating good off this one!

Why does it look like, instead of blue LEDs, blue lasers covering the slots? Looks really cool.

Guessing this console will be ban-hammered when the next "modded console" sweep hits, likely in November (i.e. just before the next CoD game).

@FinderKeeper I do assume that was a lame attempt at a joke. Physical mods are obviously undetectable to the XBL service, I should know as I've done plenty of case mods in my time...not counting my JTAGs and flashed consoles, al etc.

So... instead of red ringing does it burn the toast?

I bet this cost more than $150 to put together. These mods get expensive quicker than you might think. Hope he at least makes his money back!
