Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is one of the best unsung RPGs on Nintendo's current-gen handheld -- which might have something to do with the fact that it's not the easiest game to find in stores. Fortunately, our chances of getting the hands on the game will likely improve later this year, when Atlus releases Devil Survivor Over Clock, a 3DS update of the original 2009 title, in Japan.
In addition to a couple of extra titular words and a third dimension, Over Clock will expand the game's seven-day-long plotline by an additional day. This extra 24-hour period includes 20 new summonable demons, new maps and additional difficulties. The game will also now be fully voiced this time around, which should make some of its more over-the-top dialogue infinitely more entertaining. An Atlus representative remained tight-lipped when we asked about the game's U.S. release plans, but we've got our fingers crossed for news on the horizon.
For now, check out Famitsu for a handful of screens from the spruced-up 3D RPG.

I shouldn't buy in for such an obvious and cheap cash-in, but I know I'll pick it up day 1 when it comes stateside
I'm such a whore for atlus/smt :(

@zerokku One of the reasons I pretty much love Atlus forever was because of how they released Persona 3: FES. It looked like a cash-in at first, but then they went and released it at $30 so that all of us who had already bought and finished the original game wouldn't feel so ripped off. Perfectly reasonable price for an expansion pack, and that move earned a lot of loyalty from me. Not to mention, while The Answer wasn't exactly a full game in itself, it wasn't exactly tiny either. I have a lot of confidence that one way or another, this will feel worth it.

Well, I'm really excited. I loved Devil Survivor - one of my favourite DS games, easily - so an enhanced port for the 3DS is a perfect excuse to buy it again. *o*

I guarantee you Japan has no idea what the word "overclock" even means. I love you, Japan. Never stop misusing random English words.

For some reason the site ate the second part of my comment, which was that I have only recently started playing SMT games, but that I might pick this up if it makes it to NA. Although it seems a bit soon to remake the game already, since it's such a recent release. Not sure some buyers would be too happy to find out they wasted money on the inferior version, and then the company says, "Oh, hey, we're porting/enhancing it! Sorry about that."

I'm an SMT tool. They could release something called SMT: Bunnies and I'd buy it. I loved Devil Survivor and look forward to the new version although sound has never been something I usually have on with my handhelds...

The 3DS is looking to have one of the best launch line-ups a portable console has ever seen.

Another game where people will complain about english voice acting, then. IMO, this is just another chance at that perfect game where nobody (important to me) dies. :)

I haven't heard too many people complaining about the voice acting in Atlus games. In my experience it usually ranges from decent to exceptional (with the occasional palm-to-face wooden actor or awkward delivery for which there seems to be a requirement of at least one in every anime or Japanese video game, no matter how good the voice acting is overall).

I never did pick this up when it was still... y'know... possible to find anywhere. I might get this once I eventually get a 3DS, provided I'm not still sifting through my massive backlog of handheld RPGs.

It seems the 3DS launch games are mostly going to be 3D-enhanced ports of classics and DS games like this one. I'm sure later in the 3DS's lifespan we'll see new IPs and the like. I must say that I played Devil Survivor on the DS and amidst the glowing reviews from critics and players, I didn't like. I LOVED the "sequel" Strange Journey though which was more a dungeon crawler than the turn-based strategy gameplay of Devil Survivor. Oh well, here's to the 3DS! Can't wait!

Honestly, are JP gaming sites configuring their screenshots/art for 800x600 resolution users?
