For the second time in as many years, Trion has posted job listings for console-specific programmers, perhaps quietly staffing up for the long dormant "Syfy Action MMO" (thought to be named "One Earth") that was announced back in 2008. Rather than spell out exactly what these programmers would be doing, the listings only explain that Trion seeks two Xbox 360 "senior console programmers" to "work on AAA titles in a highly collaborative environment."
A third job listing for a "senior game/systems designer" gets more granular, specifically naming the "Syfy Action MMO" as the project in question and requiring potential candidates to have "experience working on action games for consoles, such as PS3, Xbox, etc." Trion had yet to respond to our request for more information as of publishing.

Syfy as in the Syfy Channel?
...if this is an MMO about cheesy monster-of-the-week attacks like Megacroc or Dinofish, I am SO there.

I hope they're talking about the Syfy channel. The idea that "Syfy" has entered the vocabulary as a general abbreviation for "science fiction" is enough to make me reach for that bottle of Jameson's I keep in the drawer.

...interesting. Does anyone else look forward to weekends for the all-day cheesy schlock they have on Syfy? Those awful movies are the best. This MMO would be the BEST THING EVAR if they incorporated that ridiculous cheese factor.

That was my initial thought, too. I wasn't aware concepts so nebulous and intangible as film franchises were sentient and capable of hiring people/running companies.

Believe it or not, I haven't. I was making the joke that a concept -- a thing that doesn't exist in reality -- has somehow reached into our reality, become physical, and learned how to operate a company and hire employees.
Sorry if I wasn't clear.

All I want is a TRON MMO. Why has this not been taken care of already? PvP boiled down to arena lightcycle races and disc battles? PvE exploring outside the Grid to interact with new and rouge programs, the angry system looking after you, and exploring for new life forms.

I'll see your wish for a Farscape MMO and raise you one better: Who Wants to Be a Super Hero? MMO. Imagine City of Heroes or DC Universe Online, except with nerds in costumes and ridiculous contraptions attempting to do things half as cool as actual comic book characters.

1. That looks like "TRON"
2. Seeing SyFy made me think of terrible original films. I would play a "Mega-Shark vs. Giant Cockroach" game.

I laugh every time I come across the SyFy channel or a reference to it. It basically tells me, don't take me seriously.

I guess they didn't hear that acronym "mmo" doesn't really work out financially. Maybe they are going to try F2P, but then again if its for console I doubt its F2P.
