Kid Icarus: Uprising gameplay fresh from Nintendo World

One of the highlights of this weekend's Nintendo World 2011 event was a Kid Icarus: Uprising presentation, during which producer Masahiro Sakurai demonstrated the game live on stage. If you'd like to see that entire half-hour presentation, Nintendo has posted it on Ustream.

If you'd prefer to just skip to the good stuff -- specifically, about five minutes of uninterrupted live gameplay -- go for the video after the break, courtesy of Nintendo 3DS Blog. And it is very good stuff, featuring both aerial and ground combat, against lots of flying eye monsters and even some boss types.

I'll be first in line to kick your ass.

I never understood WHY people wanted a Kid Icarus revival. The NES game was hard as balls and (in my opinion of course) not that great compared to the likes of Metroid and Zelda.

However MAN am I glad we got a sequel! This game looks freaking amazing.

I think most people recognize the name and want a new adaptation because its something Nintendo hasn't made in a while.

Sure it was hard, but it was also a great game. Being hard doesn't instantly mean it sucks (I have no idea where that stupid idea comes from), it a very well made game with deep gameplay (like hidden stats leveling up and such), fun boss battles and varied gameplay styles.
The reason why people want to see a new Kid Icarus is because the first game was fun and memorable. I have no idea why I have to explain this really >_>

for that reason, because it was a hard(core) NES game, but i'm with you on this, why a revival of a game a good amount of people don't remember playing or finishing.

I think its this whole "bring back old/remake games" phase gamers are going through right now, you can take the old mario make it 3D and give it the SMB Wii graphics put it on the 3DS and i bet you it sells like hotcakes

They couldn't make his wings move when he flies? I guess its a DS game so you can't ask for much.

This is not the game to get me to buy a 3ds, sorry nintendo.

Wait, so.. You are anti-Icarus because of a lack of wing movement? They do actually flap occasionally. I'd say it was a creative decision not to have Icarus be like a clumsy pigeon.

I kind of agree. Personally, I don't really care about the lack of flapping in the wings but just the general feel of how the gameplay looked. I can't really judge it completely until I play it but going off of this video I'm luke warm on the title. Personally, I thought the graphics looked good for a handheld (not as good as some iPhone stuff) but that alone won't be enough to sell me on it. I want to withold further judgement but I agree that based off what I've seen thus far this isn't the game that going to make me run out and buy a 3DS on day 1.

Think of it as gliding at faster than light speed? All I'm saying is that they didn't make icarus look like he is actually involved in the world. It's like he is standing in front of a projector, shooting at things that are just on the screen.

If he were really flying, if they took him out of an 8 year olds view and made icarus seem like a real character, then I'd be interested. But they didn't, so I'm not.

Also, why does he gallop instead of walk?

Flying a real plane looks like you're standing in front of a projector, except that it's in 3D. If only this game could also be in 3D. oh, wait....

It seems like they are really pushing this game to be the big launch title with the system. It will probably show off the 3D effects the best. Oh, and it looks awesome so that doesn't hurt either.

Good grief, after watching the new videos of Mario Kart, Star Fox, and Paper Mario, there is just now way in hell I will be able to not pick up a 3DS when it comes out.

I had to watch with the sound way down, so no, I didn't hear him. But it certainly doesn't surprise me. Did he mention Panzer Dragoon too?

While watching the video, I was able to vividly picture the 3D. You can just look at a little clip of the video-- just spewing of the third dimension.

And maybe my monitor is playing some tricks, but this looks loads better than what was shown at this past E3.

And- this looks incredible.

The graphics look pretty good.

Mega Man Legends 3 will be the system seller for me, but this looks like pretty damn good gravy on top. =)

I really wish Nintendo would just release direct feed footage instead of these silly screen recorded streams.

Kid Icarus looks great though

Is it me, or does Icarus look like he is trotting around like a horse? He has a bit of a gallop.

The protagonist's name isn't Icarus, it's "Pit".

I hate to be the voice of negativity, but this honestly doesn't look all that impressive to me; it seems like a less frantic, less precise version of Sin & Punishment.

It does have nice visuals, though.

On the whole raising dead IPs from the grave matter, I just wish Nintendo made another Star Fox... And I mean, one as good as the original or 64 and not all that crap that followed...

@gatotsu911 I think you should wait until there is actual play footage and not just tech demo-y stuff, to say something like that. There seem to be free roam aspects in addition to the on rails portions as well.

You do all realise that at the Nintendo World 2011 event Kid Icarus: Uprising had Easy and Hard mode. This being the easy mode so they could demonstrate the game.
