The best part about these Kinect videos is how every thing that's done in them can be done with a regular webcam.

TRUTH DOWNVOTE AHOY!

@Nero6 A standard webcam reads depth? Huh, never knew that.

@Robborboy Sure does. Head gets bigger, object is closer. Logitechs cat faces getting bigger and smaller ftw!

Come on guys, you can downvote me faster than that can't you?

@Nero6 Well no actually. As your regular webcamera can't tell you the z-axis movement. You can certainly write complicated algorithms to try and approximately calculate it but as I understand kinect has two cameras which gives "3d view" and doesn't need to do quite as much to figure out that type of movement.

In regards to the video it's pretty cool, and I think it really illustrates the big issue with kinect, and also its solution. With kinect it's difficult to figure out a good way to control movement in 1st/3rd person games, but if you add even a simple wiimote/move like controller the problem pretty much goes away and then you can use kinect for all your other controls.
I think that no matter how good kinect gets, until you can combine it effectively with a controller (regular xbox controller won't work because it restricts your hand movements) it will remain a niche product.

@2late2die Sure Kinect can do it better because it has the better hardware. But you can absolutely do half of these videos on regular webcams. A parrot moving around using only your arm? That's the exact definition of the cat avatar only with your arm - you can do the exact same thing. But because it was done with Kinect, that makes the Kinect revolutionary. What I said before can be used the same way to make Max jump forward and backward.

I'm not saying Kinect sucks, it doesn't. But remember when Sony got caught secretly advertising? Surely we haven't ruled out the possibility of these guys working for MS, right?

Innovation FTW. Great to see troll-repellant in the intro as well :-).

Mostly, I'm grateful for this video bringing to my attention how atrocious the voice work in Max Payne was. Video games have come a long way in the last 8 years.

I think microsoft should do this. I think as soon as someone invents a sensible way to navigate a character freely in a 3D space the flood gates will open for the potential of Kinect.

That way you can put a gun controller in a persons hand (people typically know what to do with those) and they can pretty much go nuts with shooters. While the move is good, I would prefer it if they got rid of the nav controller, That would make it more immersive over all. Kinect has the potential to do that.

I think Microsoft will do this. One step at a time, you know? How easy would it be to release a controller to work with kinect? Take an xbox controller, split it in 1/2, and tadah!

I think this will come eventually. The ultimate combination would be PS move controller + Kinect.

@FrodoTBaggins Microsoft would be dangerously close to creating the Playstation Move if they added controllers to Kinect. In fact, they are both dangerously close to becoming one another; all Kinect has to do is add a controller and all Move has to do is upgrade the PS Eye and we're back to both of the HD systems being exactly the same again.

Combining a Kinect and a wiimote seems like a really good idea to me.

@UNSCleric Exactly, I'm not trying to disrespect this modder but everything I've seen from him so far looks like more "work" than just using a regular controller.

Once again, for the many xbox fan boys who claim that those kinect hacks don“t have real "gaming" value.....

Forget all this, I need to sit down and play games. After working all day, I need to relax. So give me my gaming chair and controller over the Kinect crap any day.

I can't wait for the fail video of someone trying to dive and actually diving into their TV, cracking the screen.

Real soldiers don't fight wars sitting in a couch; they move and work-out
Real athletes don't get gold medals mashing two button; they move and work-out.

You can't have motion tracking sitting in a couch mashing buttons, you'll have to move and work-out. I gotta say with FPS and some kind of glasses, virtual reality could be possible.

Not only is this awesome because it incorporates Max Payne, an IP everyone but me has forgotten, but also because the implementation makes total sense. Why the hell did Move and Kinect launch with a metric poop-ton of shovelware (namely, exer-games) when cool d00ds such as this guy are making innovative games I actually want to play? Granted, during the Wii's launch (and the others', to a certiain extent), the launch games looked cool as well and turned out mostly bad due to poor controller implementation, but this seriously looks fun and appropriately using the technology. Sans the Wii controller, this is basically what I expected "normal" games to be on the 360 using Kinect - they would or should use it tangentially, and as generically as possible.

You know, sometimes I feel as if the Kinect is Microsofts excuse for not given us real gamers a better gaming system. The Xbox 360 is great and making it more like the Wii just does not cut it.

I didnt always think about it like this but I came across an article called "Can you really hate Kinect". You can find the article here: http://getyourgadgetsgoing.com/2011/01/11/can-you-really-hate-kinect-poll/

Funny how console gamers complain that the motion control is not good enough for serious games....

Now they can understand how PC gamers with a mouse feel about the inferior controller.

If the controller becoming so widely popular without gamers caring about losing control is any indication... then don't be surprised to see motion control take over...

Interesting how controls keep de-evolving.. becoming less precise... less important.. more casual... more ..quote "relaxing"...

I'll stick to Mouse and Keyboard.
