Aside from everyone making fun of you for putting "the" twice, you also forgot to take in to account that the 4th gen had three games: Diamond, Pearl AND Platinum

However if you were curious the other games were New Super Mario Bros, Diamond/Pearl (dual releases are treated as one game), Animal Crossing and Brain Age 2.

Those of you out there demanding that Game Freak and Nintendo shut down the franchise because 'it isn't good anymore': this is why they never will do such a thing, even IF your complaints had any merit.

Also, I can't wait until I get my copy of Pokemon Black!

@BonUs

I have no idea who would say it isn't good considering it's only gotten better since Gen 1.

@BonUs I would say the series has gone down hill a bit since the first generation, but from what I've played of Black the series is definitely back on track.

@hxczuner I was in that odd group that never played the first generation games, instead falling in love with Pokemon through the anime when I was too little to play the games. My first Pokemon game was Silver, and I played that thing even after I'd gotten Ruby, and if I hadn't loaned it to a friend who moved away three months later I'd still have it and probably still play it. As such, I can't say if the series has dipped in quality since the first gen: I've had a very consistent gaming experience with the series since the second gen, the only real low point for me being the third gen, and even then I still own a copy of Emerald and LeafGreen and still enjoy them.

I'm with you...I played and loved the first gen, but the second gen was when I really became Pokemon's slave. I fell out of it for a while, but I bought a DS and Pokemon SoulSilver a few weeks ago and man I'm glad I did.

I also bought Golden Sun Dark Dawn and I haven't even taken the plastic off yet. Just goes to show the power of Pokemon, because I love the Golden Sun series as well.

People with nostalgia goggles that are too tight.
Oh and casuals that never understood the depth of the franchise.

@Xiegfried I agree, although there have been some bumps in the road. I almost gave up on the series after the D/P safari zone, which could have been renamed the "Get stuck repeatedly in the mud and constantly attacked by Bidoofs for the remote chance at capturing all of two unique pokemon" zone.

I honestly want to know if Nintendo will ever stop making Pokémon games. The whole "Catch 'Em All" aspect is getting kind of ridiculous, with upwards of 600 Pokémon to catch in this generation. As much as I love new Pokémon and new regions, I just don't see how it's going to be plausible soon enough.

Tell that to the sales figures...

I personally love Pokemon. And have done since I was little and having grown up with it, since the first Gen. I'm 18 now and still like it. I think it has some staying power. lol

Oh, I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 18 and have played since Blue and Red, loving every generation. I know Pokémon has staying power, I just don't know how much longer they'll keep making 100 or more new Pokémon every few years.

It's staying reasonable because they have it so each generation from GBA on you can transfer your old pokemon. So as long as you keep moving your pokemon forward each generation, you don't need to recatch them all.

I'd say pokemon games have been just about the same amount of fun since the very beginning, they've gotten better but so have many other game series so it balances out.

I stopped playing Pokemon after Gold but I picked up HeartGold when it released and that reignited my interest in the series. Picking up White.

The phrase "Gotta catch 'em all" has not appeared on any of the boxes since Gold/Silver. It's implied from R/S/E and on.

Bloody hell... Five million sales and it hasn't even been released outside of Japan yet? I have to admit, though, it deserves it. They substantially improved the series with Gen V, adding tonnes of new gameplay mechanics AND IT HAS AN ACTUAL STORY. If Gamefreak keeps this up, they'll have to ban the sale of Pokémon games on any non-public holiday!

I'm actually going to wait to get the eventual 3rd version of this game when it comes out in two years or so. Expect an announcement from Japan about the 3rd version (or heck, an R/S remake) sometime this summer.
This generation just doesn't grab me for some reason - and I've been with the franchise since Red/Blue. If it wasn't for Pokemon I probably wouldn't ever play video games.
