The "3" in "Killzone 3" might as well stand for the quantity of cinematics in Guerilla's latest shooter -- three times the amount employed by Killzone 2. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) said in its bestowing of an "18" (mature) rating on the game that its cutscenes total 70 minutes. Its predecesor, by comparison, contained 25 minutes worth of story sequences, according to the BBFC.
Let's see: We know that characters voiced by Malcolm McDowell and Ray Winstone will be chewing up the scenery for a good chunk of that hour and 10 minutes; the rest will therefore be composed of shouting space marines and other guys who are also shouting but have red "eyes." Someone get Michael Bay on the phone!

Hehe, thousands of dollars . . . that's like a week of pay for a good programmer.
Think bigger.

I make $600 a week as a first year comp eng student doing, you guessed it, programming.
$1000 a week is far from ridiculous for a skilled professional. CG trailers require large teams of people and months to make. "thousands of dollars" is pocket change in relation to modern game development budgets.

I wouldn't exactly say that... There is one cutscene in MGS4 that is well over an hour. That's all these cutscenes throughout this whole game.

Every single FPS game (short of Bulletstorm) claims a story emphasis. It's just words to use in interviews though.
Remember, according to all the interviews and announcements Gears 2 was going to be emotional tale of love, heartache, and a fight to survive at all costs.

Even though I've played both Killzones I still couldn't tell you what the story was about. It has an extremely weak and forgettable fiction.
By the middle of the second game I wasn't even sure why they were fighting or whose planet they were supposed to be on. All the missions just translated as "Go here and blow this shit up. Because that's your orders."

@arkweld yeah unfortunately Guerilla didn't do a particularly great job explaining the backstory in the game. But there is quite a rich background once you read through everything on their webpage. Plus it's kind of interesting. I like hard sci fi so it's kind of nice to take a break from aliens and religious space muppets.

The only thing I do remember is Helghast because their cool glowing eyes helmet suits are everywhere and the only thing that stands out.
I can't remember the name of the other side without helmets or if they are the good guys. Who are the invaders? Who started the whole thing? Etc.

why would this please you? isn't this what most people don't want from their games? i thought the point of games was to be the one who interacts instead of simply observing interactions.
70 minutes of CG, that's almost the length of a pixar movie, though i doubt any of it will be nearly as good.

There is no single point to all games. I like CG too, I don't see why others should be bothered by that fact.

Well, 70 minutes of cutscenes in a 7 hour game...the story better be damn good for that. Going off the first two games, m hopes aren't that high.
We don't play shooters for their stories...come on now.

What?! Man, this just dropped my interest in this game a considerable amount. I love a good story in games and all, but 70+ minutes of FMV in a FPS, especially Killzone, just seems a tad bit out of place to me... I hope this stuff uses the in-game engine rather than actual FMV. And I hope that it is so amazingly awesome that my apprehensions towards this end up being completely wrong. That is going to have to be some major overhauls in the story department of this series for that to happen...

Its better to be able to play big moments (or watch without leaving the current perspective) than to have to watch them without any interactivity in a GAME.
