Where do I sign up?

Here's an idea, Nintendo. How about actually putting cameras on the 3DS that would make recording any video, much less 3D video, worth anyone's time?

You know, just a thought.

It's 2011 and you guys are still sporting 0.3megapixel cameras like they just came out. See it would be one thing if 1 or 2 megapixel cameras were not already dirt cheap, but they are; have been for years. So 0.3 megapixel is inexcusable.

But thanks for filling the 3DS full of outdated and antiquated tech. This way we know you guys are going to be printing money again for the next six years as you bring out newer versions of 3DS every year, each featuring some "NEW" features should have been in the original 3DS when it launched.

Sorry for the rant guys. The 3D part of 3DS looks awesome. But at $250 (JP¥25,000 and £249.99 GBP), one really expects more in the systems amenities . . . not to have Nintendo dangle those amenities on a stick like a carrot for the next six years, coaxing more money out of people every year just to continually upgrade the hardware. Who do they think they are? Apple?

@Tachyonic Cargo Why would you need more than 640×480 pixels when the screen's only 400×240 pixels?

Thank you for saying that. It's one issue I had with the DSi, and should have been improved upon with the 3DS.

I do agree in the fact that... 640 x 480 res is just lame for nowadays cameras, however, the 3DS focus is not to be a 3D camera, and actually, to have a couple of 2 megapixels cameras recording at the same time to create a stereoscopic image is a lot to handle for 3DS hardware, because 3DS hardware is meant to play 3D games, not to record 3D video or to play high res 3D videos

If you are a 3D enthusiast, get a high res 3D camera, if you want to play 3D games, get a 3DS (or some other 3D options out there on consoles), it all depends on the purpose of the device, and each device will fulfill a certain need

I can bet kids and casual 3D users will have fun with that camera anyways

Actually when 3D is off it has 800x480, when on 3D it has 400x240 per each eye. :)

They may not think they're Apple but they're certainly following the apple "way". Can you blame them? they have almost as many utterly devoted fans that will rush out an buy it on day one despite knowing a better one will be out a year later.

Apologies, but where in the name of hell did you get a pricepoint of £249.99 GBP from? No-point stating placeholders, and thats £56 over from direct conversion....

You also need to read the Iwata Asks interview and understand why the camera was included in the first place. The system wasn't designed to function as a camera... so theirs no point complaining (thats as pointless as crying over the fact my Nokia 1661 only plays Snake... I bought a phone, not a games console). It adds slight functionality while ensuring the focus of the device itself is still on the games. Not there to be used so you can take professional photo's for your freinds Wedding...

And as for the line about Nintendo raking in money.... They're a company inside a very competitive market...if anything thats Objective Number 1.

Don't worry, the children are save! Every time you want to show your 3d-video to someone, both of you will have to enter a 16-digit friend code and do a rain dance.

In short: Nintendo will make sure it's inconvenient enough to use, so nobody will even bother. ;-)

Seriously, I'm still hoping Nintendo has at least replaced per game friend codes with a single account code. They can path as many features into the system as they want later on, but this should be essential for convenient online play in Street Figher, Mario Kart and the likes.

@nesinvaders I think they have to be aggressive with phones edging in on its territory and let's face it do u think parents listen to the labeling on games if they did then 10 year olds wouldn't be play m rated games. nintendo is doing this because they know they can get away with it because really they have no competition in the handheld market and since the don't they r going to do whatever they want because they can.

@Shadow Hog TBH, I can take the damning effect that a triple-bummer may bring. Yet, the negative effect that may be brought by recent events may turn out to diminish once the handheld releases. Let me explain:

- Battery Life: We need to remember that the estimate assumes that the 3DS' full brightness and Wi-Fi are active. Brightness will be adjustable, and Ninty have also included a special Wi-Fi switch that is remeniscent of the PSP's.

- Region Locking: Never trust anything that a Nintendo employee has said. One said that the 3DS would come out before Christmas...

- Friend Codes: I can specifically understand the complaints found here, but there's a possibility that the FCs will all be unified across the system.

Wow, when you randomly walk past people who left their 3DS on in their pocket, you can exchange data and gifts with other Nintendogs players! Awesome! Nintendo is always so creative and innov-

Wait isn't that just Bark Mode from Nintendogs for DS, released 5 years ago? :|

@FancyCat2008
the difference is that Bark Mode had to be turned on, left on, and the game had to be left in the DS, which had to be kept on in sleep mode.
Street Pass doesn't have to be activated, it happens automatically. you don't have to be playing the game. shit, the game doesn't even have to be in the 3DS.
data's transfered and next time you open your 3DS, you're informed of whatever data you got. this is also going to apply to racers (ghost racers, etc), street fighter (fighting game automatically takes place [or something like that] ), and etc
so yeah. how 'bout them apples?

@nesinvaders

even if this handheld becomes the most expensive handheld Nintendo has produced, I think it's success is vastly assured:

3DS will launch on a solid market that Nintendo has built for 2 decades: handheld gaming. NDS is very solid and many many owners of a DS will move on to 3DS, I consider one myself

another step towards success is the launch date: 3D is the new thing, the new sensation, but you are forced to pay for a 3D tv, 3D glasses, and many people do not agree with using glasses: 3D is glass-less 3D, and this appeals most of people. Even if in the future, glass-less 3D tv's will come out (the technology is there, parallax barrier, but the costs are still too high), nintendo is already delivering it, and people like it, and people will buy it

another point, at least what makes me want to buy a 3DS is the support of DSi enhanced games, as I didn't buy a DSi, but I want to play pokemon B&W

and haven't you read the lineup of games being developed for 3DS?? it's a VERY solid line up, even if many games are only 3D remakes, but hey, if a FFVII HD remake was launched on PS3, i'd be the first in the line to buy it as well.

so I think 3DS success is guaranteed, at least in launch, and if it has a solid launch, 3rd parties will support it, and we'll see another 6 years of Nintendo dominating the handheld department

@MintagedVortex actually, I'm sure Friend Codes will be tied to console, and not per game, for example, GH: Warriors of Rock will create a Friends List based on who you have added on your Wii console, and you can add strangers on the fly, without the need of friends codes

so there are ways to make this work more efficiently, for example: shorter, alfanumeric codes (bit lenght can remain the same, but the number of characters is much lower, thus easier to share), to be able to add the codes on the fly (opening a sort of dashboard to add the 3DS code once and for all, ingame), and being able to add buddies for specific games without codes, just choosing the guy and adding him..

at least, i really hope nintendo has this in mind..

Despite some of the 3DS's shortcomings, I have no doubt that the software will more than make up for it.

After all Nintendo handhelds have always won with there game line-ups rather than there hardware.
