@Faenix

Should never pay 500 for a portable gaming device

Yea. I bought an iPod Touch and I put as much time into it as I do my DS or PSP, and then it doubles as a portable email app (thanks BT Fon & Openzone) and brilliant MP3 and video player.
Well worth the cost.

@Faenix Y'know.. not soley for games.

Theres a handful of tittles, and quality releases are far and few in between.

I have an iPhone 4, 15 good games and many of them are micro. Cut the rope and Solipskier do not warrant a purchase of the ipod for merely games. It does work wonders if you want to use it for media and have wi-fi.

I love my phone for the connectivity if offers but for lengthy experiences, stick to a DS or even PSP

@Ethan

My bad. I was thinking of the iPad, which is what I figure one would go for if they were looking exclusively for the App stuff

@Faenix Sure is. I bought mine two years ago as a music player, but wanted access to the App Store in case something cool was released for it. Two years later, a whole LOT of cool things were released for it. It doesn't work as well for action games as the DS or PSP, but it's much more powerful than the former system and the download service is more robust than either of its competitors. My one and only regret is that my iPod Touch is a first generation unit without the bells and whistles of later models.

There was an animated version of this? The Road Blaster I grew up playing in arcades was an Atari racing game where you had a machine gun, and every so often a plane would come and drop a new weapon on your car. THAT'S the Road Blaster I know and love.

What you're thinking of is RoadBlasters which was unrelated, made by Atari, ported to various home consoles, and was way better known than this one.

@Timby Yeah, I remember the Atari Road Blasters as well, which was hugely popular. And I remember Data East's Cobra Command.

Never seen this one before...

@Starcade

They released this on Sega-CD as "Road Avenger". One of the better laser-disk dragon's lair clones. Next one we'll see is Time Gal. Just wait.

@Polymorphic Ninja

I wouldn't call a driving game a "Dragon's Lair" clone. It uses the same concept, FMV off a Laserdisc, with quick-time-like events, but I wouldn't call it a clone.

It looks good but is this just an on-rails kind of game like Dragon's Lair? Because I like freedom in my games.

Yeah. It's like Dragon's Lair, but it's one of the better clones. Surprisingly action packed, and seemed more emersive. (Well.. when it was on the Sega CD anyway... haven't played the iOS version)

@Polymorphic Ninja I didn't care for it. As a general rule, I don't like laserdisc games, but this one is especially infuriating because there are only two control options... swiping to turn the steering wheel, and tilting the whole system. Both styles of input have serious problems, especially since you generally have to react BEFORE you're told to take action.

Your mileage may vary, but after thirty frustrating minutes of play, I just said "Screw it" and watched footage of the game on YouTube. It's the same thing without the frustration!

The way the sega-CD version played, you basically had to make sure you were pressing the indicated direction by the time the indicator disappeared.

So if you see the indicator and just moved in that direction and then let up on it before it disappeared, it would trigger the lose animation.

I'm still waiting for a game that's as insane as Road Blaster that's in real time. Is it even possible? Plus I just admire the ridiculousness of it all. Driving through a shopping mall while giant semi trucks bust through the walls? Forced off the road into a corn field full of threshing machines? Escaping into the sewer only to discover that it's already filled with enemy cars and (swear to god not kidding) Zamboni Machines?! This should be the starting point of every modern racing game!

You can tell the car in the trailer was based off a Firebird.
