It'd be great if Nintendo didn't crush this underfoot. Which they will.

@The Blank Mage Returns Custom levels for Mario games get created all the time, you're thinking of fan projects that use their IP to create new games.

They havent with anything like this in the past. i doubt they will now. Bringing news attention probably wont help... but still, im glad these guys are getting recognition for this.

And not even those, games like Super Mario Crossover and the online Pokemon simulators are still out there after all this time. I don't know where people get the idea that Nintendo utterly crushes every single mod based on their IPs.

It doesn't help that some people have faked cease and desists as an excuse to cancel their projects. As far as I can tell, you wont get into too much trouble unless your stealing or selling something, only sometimes with hacking. Did nintendo ever shut down the super smash bros mods?

Making a whole new engine is a lot more difficult than modding an existing one.

Don't expect much, The one level that the community has produced was created and submitted by a guest account and they don't know the name.

@EvoHelix Hi, leader of the project here. Firstly, I didn't know the name of the user when I first posted it, but I do now. Secondly, in the past week we have completed 2 levels and 2 more are in the works as we speak.

I'm a huge fan of galaxy 2 and chose to hack the game rather than using my own engine because my goal was to extend Mario Galaxy 2 with extra stars, not create a new game.

I hope some of you are interested and you can sign up and help at our forums, not to mention contribute with designs or playtesting.

@EvoHelix You'll get links when they're finished! One is in the works by Martboo24, who is making a Flipswap galaxy hack, I'm currently making a Fluffy Bluff Galaxy hack, and Skwako recently donated his hack to us, which will be placed in supermassive galaxy, or twisty trial galaxy.

And one note, despite the difficulty of this level, the game will NOT be any sort of kaizo mario in 3D.

The game aims to be fair, this level will be tweaked!

As a first level this only shows off a fraction of what we can do.

Really? I like curb-stomping difficulty. If anything, this level looks easy. I thin anyone who's played Meat Boy can tell you we're masochistic.

I agree. If I hadn't known that this was a "harder" hacked level, I would never have guessed this wasn't in the vanilla game.

When I heard "infamous Yoshi jump," I thought it was the one where you be a total douche to Yoshi to cross a really wide gap. There was an awesome picture for it.... I'm just too lazy to find it right now.

I'm not much for pirating stuff, so I haven't hacked my Wii to add the homebrew channel. I totally didn't think about modded Wii games until a friend of mine showed me his Wii Flow channel with modded NSMBW games. Modern ROM hacks. It's totally reason enough for me to do it, since my usual complaint with these games is that they are too easy!

Anybody who has done the Wii Flow thing got a link to throw my way?

@Levi

The main reason to hack as far as i can see is region-freeing. I'm going to put the homebrew channel back for that purpose

@therandomizer, that's not really what I meant. I'm under the impression that the reason hacking a Wii is so popular is to pirate, and I'm not much for pirating, so I haven't hacked my Wii. That's all I meant by that part of the comment.

Downloading a hacked version of a game may not be the #1 definition of pirating, but in a case like this, you probably should own the game too, from a moral standpoint.

How coincidental that this article should come today, as less than an hour ago, my friend and I managed to net me my 119th and 120th stars! They were very difficult, but now I can finally hunt down Green Stars without their very existence taunting me.

While this is interesting, there's no way this will ever be officially sanctioned or condoned by the company. I suppose it's sort of like next-gen ROM hacking, but I think the SMG games' level designs are brilliant enough that there's no real need to tinker with it. Still, interesting concept. It's a shame Nintendo wouldn't release a game akin to LittleBigPlanet...

It's not necessarily good level design if it makes you use a glitch to complete it.
But hey, that's like...most romhacks out there, really.

@RupeeClock What glitch is necessary to beat the level? The level is completable without the use of any glitches.
