Final Fantasy Type-0's new trailer for a new name [update: trailer removed]

Early this morning, Square Enix announced that the game formerly known as Final Fantasy Agito XIII would now be called Final Fantasy Type-0 -- possibly as the result of the company-wide syllable shortage caused by the development of Dissidia 012 [Duodecim] Final Fantasy.

Along with the new name, the company premiered a new trailer, featuring lots of depressing, epic CG war footage (warning: wounded Chocobo) along with actual gameplay. The rest looks pretty much like it did two years ago, at least in terms of the third-person action-style gameplay; the look seems to have gotten a bit darker. However, this version has something "Agito XIII" never did: a release window (specifically, summer).

This looks like they took everything good from Crisis Core, and made it better. I cannot wait.

Thank god. I thought there was gonna be ANOTHER FF coming out now. Square-Enix spreads themselves too damn thin to get anything done on time. We're still waiting on KH3, Squeenix.....

Is it me or Fabula Nova Crystalis looks more medieval/industrial now? I mean, you don't see anymore "computers", neon lights, etc. in XIII-2 and Type-0.

With the name change there stands the chance that this has been removed from the Fabula Nova Crystallis line of games and made into its own spin-off line, so maybe or maybe not.

This one actually looks pretty good! probably 1 of the last great psp games to come out, I'm still amazed at what they can do with the psp's hardware. :]

Spoiler: My favorite part is when the guy is trying to heal the chocobo and says : shit!!! and the part where they all look like assassins with the robes. :)

wow wish we could this version of final fantasy in console instead of FF13.

Why change the name - isn't this in the same universe or something similar to XIII?

Anyway, the game looks like a fun, fast-paced action RPG. Looking forward to its eventual release.

Doubt it.. I think it's just darker stories on "Type"

I remember a time before FFXIII and XIV when i used to actually get excited about FF trailers.

Final Fantasy is pretty much dead to me. I'm tired of watching nonsensical movies about effeminate teenage superwarriors.

I hear that. I don't feel even a twinge of anticipation for this game. The fact that it's headed by the astonishingly untalented Hajime Tabata doesn't help matters.

Is this still going to be tied in with the Fabulous Nova Whatever 13 universe/mythos? Just wondering since it no longer has XIII in its name

I was hoping that Type-0 was going to be a throw-back to the old school games. Kind of a let down to know it's something I already knew about.

Possibly trying to distance themselves from the XIII brand? Wouldn't blame them after the mixed reception it got

Thinking that Type is for stories a little too dark to be of the main FF... they still need to make single player versions of FFXI & XIV.. the MMO's should never have been number with the rest.. they should have been FF _____ then numbered

Also... anyone else notice all the right-angles in that trailer.. it's like they're sticking to their name.. or the gameplay is going to be top down 8 bit style

i know it's a long shot and all, but i'm still crossing by fingers, toes, testicles and other various appendages that this will see an iPhone release (i know it won't be i can dream - i mean, look at it! it's amazing! the iPhone has such a HUGE worldwide install base, they'd be missing a trick not to. having said this this is a Squeenix game. a company who, in recent years, have the slogan 'What trick? You were doing magic? Damn, I missed it.' granted, it's not the most catchy slogan, they are Japanese though)

I predict:

Game sucks and blows = failure

Game’s great = nobody cares (all have been burnt)

Awesome game. Too bad it will get pirated like there is no tomorrow.

Agito XIII was never going to be a card game. It's just that one of the first characters shown wielded cards.

Based on what I've seen so far from the trailer, this seriously beats FFXIII. haha.
