All of the trailers for Final Fantasy Versus XIII have begun with the tagline: "This is a fantasy based on reality." This new trailer, leaked from this morning's Square Enix conference, shows a city, not unlike Tokyo, under siege. Noctis and crew fight back with swords and, yes, turrets. It's unsurprising that this Nomura-directed game looks a bit like Kingdom Hearts -- for adults.
Update: Square Enix has removed the trailer from YouTube. Sorry!

I hate that gamers have chosen camps and continue to wage this war.
What's so wrong about sharing the love with our gamers that decided the Xbox was the console for them? I love my PS3, I don't want an Xbox. But that doesn't mean that I'd stick my nose up at someone if they wanted to give it to me for free.

@Bewoulf The easy solution is to own both consoles. It gives me a license to laugh at people who complain about system exclusives. (I use my 360 more, but wanted a bluray player anyway so getting a PS3 was an easy choice.)

@Ashkental Herp, it was tweeted last night that Nomura fought very hard to keep it PS3, so it stays that way. But obviously you aren't the kind of person that would enjoy these games, so lick a nut.

Hey, looks really fun. I just hope that it's actually visible - the colors in the city level/that sunset area looked pretty drab. I also hope that it comes to Xbox in America!

if i'm not mistaken, isn't Versus 13 a ps3 exclusive while normal 13 (and I assume 13-2) was multiplatform? I could be wrong. either way, while the colors may look a little drab, i accept this as their apology for not making a Kingdom Hearts 3 at the moment. i was pleasantly surprised at how fluid it appeared. although i hope this isn't like a FF8 (which I loved don't get me wrong) where its mainly an angsty male lead saving the world

I wasn't interested in this game until about three minutes ago, sorry to say, having not ever played Kingdom Hearts (again, I offer my apologies). Combat looks like it could be awesome, though I'm already seeing telltale signs of a terrible camera.
Definitely want to play it, though I suppose I should suffer through the rest of XIII before too long seeing as there are now three in-universe games coming out soon enough.

Set in the same universe, just a different world I guess.
"Final Fantasy Versus XIII is, according to its developers, a wholly independent story unfolding with different characters and a different visual design. Although it is set within the same Final Fantasy XIII universe, it is unrelated to any other entry within the compilation and is thus neither a sequel nor a prequel to any other entries in the Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy series."

This looks incredible. Now I just hope it comes out on 360, because I would feel a little stupid paying over $300 dollars to play one game...though, I may end up doing just that.

@Muitnorts Sorry, none of them look remotely interesting to me. Half are shooters that look boring, don't care for Uncharted or LBP, and Ratchet and Clank alone isn't worth buying a PS3 for. The PS3 just isn't my cup of tea. I meant no offense to any PS3 users with my above statement. Different people like different things.

I have a feeling that if it did come out on 360, 360 owners would get screwed again, in turn PS3 owners would also get screwed again.
360 owners were given a lesser quality FF13 and PS3 owners because of the 360 port were given less of the game in general which was supposed to be longer and filled with more stuff.
So as much as I'd like to see a proper multiplat release, I'm not always sure it works out to be in the two consoles benefits :(

@blackangel209 Not wanting to start a war or anything, but isn't most of the 360's line-up boring shooters?
Sure they have good exclusives like Alan Wake.. But I see mostly shooters there. I'm no fanboy, but as an owner of both systems, I think the PS3 has a superior line-up.

Why didn't they just call this FF15?

Because they're running out of numbers.
Looks beautiful. Hate the setting though, seems like japanese pop culture and an old Final Fantasy smooshed together, just not my cup of tea it seems.
I wish Square would do a good old fashion RPG, in the same style they're doing all this new stuff, but you know, a FF14 style world. But that's just me isn't it...

@acefondu: It's part of some kind of "collection" Square Enix decided to come out with, which is the "Fabula Nova Crystallis compilation: (I had to Google that name since I completely forgot what it was lol). Although each main game of this collection is based in different worlds with different characters, they will all ultimately be based around a common theme, which is some kind of "special crystal", if I recall correctly. These crystals are integral to each game's world, and I think I remember hearing Square based the design of look of each game's world on their specific crystal or something.
All I know is that Square Enix is making it that "XIII" isn't just one standalone game, but a compilation of many titles revolving around the same theme. So far, there's four titles in this compilation that we know of: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII (Type-0).
Square Enix still has long plans for XIII, saying that this compilation alone could span a decade. This is just speculation, but I think Square might want a core Final Fantasy to end at the number 13 (FFXIV doesn't count 'cause it's an MMO). I heard about this rumour a long time ago, even when FFXI was in its infant stages of development.

Honestly, I don't care if 360 gets it in a general sense, but I would hate if there's an even bigger wait for the PS3 version because of it. If they release it and then worry about porting it (a la ME2), that would be fine, but for some reason that never happens.

I would try to explain what I feel about this, but I can't. It might have something to do with my mind being blown halfway through the trailer.

I'm assuming this plays like Final Fantasy Crisis Core on PSP, in fact it looks like a tribute to those who played Crisis Core on PSP. If that's anything to go by, the camera probably won't be as fiddly as one might think.
I'm especially curious as this is a perfect opportunity for Square to add some online co-op play, of course it would only work if the storyline is either skipable at the same time or short enough in none playable sections not to bother the co-op players.
Other than that, looks superb, can't wait for this game to hit shelves, I didn't bother with FF13 because I'm fed up of turn based gameplay after playing Crisis Core and Monster Hunter, but this looks fun :D

Yeah, it does take the gameplay elements from Kingdom hearts, but whats wrong with linking it with Crisis Core as well. The character Zack, put him next to this character and tell me you don't see the similarities. Being more advanced then Crisis Core its bound to play like Kingdom Hearts as well.
The way you make it sound is as if what I said bore no connection whatsoever.

@Spunky Monkey 190906 Cuz crisis core is way different than koh game play plus u act I was talking bout u linking crisis core to versus when I just talked bout the gameplay and on top of that if it would be a tribute it would again be to koh due to the fact that the director of this game was the one for koh

KH for adults... I liked that, specially since I'd have to do a lot of catching up should I play any of the recent KH.
Looks cool, just some sugestions:
- Change the stupid, meaningless name
- Give us a realise date
- Bundle it with a PS3
Add this game and I have enough reasons to buy a PS3, I'm not gonna whine about how it's not coming to the 360. I just need to know: WHEN?!
