Kinect Hacks: Projection mapping combined with depth sensing (or: Hadouken!)
22
In layman's terms, this Kinect hack lets you throw a Hadouken with the assistance of a projector. Do you really need to know any more than that?

I think someones already done a music video in Kinect, but I think this effect alone would be awesome looking if tinkered with properly and had the camera point at a band playing

I just saw a video of a Chinese hospital using Kinect for surgeons to browse and zoom CT images with gesture during operations. That's quite neat and useful

And that's without even mention the inevitable day when it becomes self-aware.

Yeah, screw these guys for using this new technology in new and unique ways!
Personally, I'd rather have new, interesting things like this than some gimmicky Kinect games. I imagine after a while some more game developers will pick up on the tech's potential and put it to some good uses, but for now, stuff like this is the future of the Kinect.

@golobulus I think this preception came from no one is announcing new games for Kinect . Gaming medias usually don't report much about a game once it's released, and as of now all of Kinect games are already out, aside from some Japanese studios who typically remain fairly silent until release date is close. With nothing to look forward to the media resort to hacks, etc. It's curious, what is western devs doing?

These hacks are bascially showing developers & MS what they can do with Kinect. Kinect was marketed for kids & the family. But now these guys are showing things that can be done for the core gamers as well. Mainly the people who said Kinect was a fail.

Once Kinect is available for the Indie Developers I think there will be a whole lot of awesome little games. I can't wait to see what people come up with! Hurry up MS!

The way things are right now, Kinect seems more like an experiment on Microsoft's part. I mean, they're not doing anything with it and they allowed the hacking community to have a blast (a surprising move coming from MS, BTW). Later on, after the hacking community do what they should've done, they will incorporate the best ideas into a "Kinect 2.0" if you will, throw in some more ideas of their on and... Well, and then I have no idea what's gonna happen, but I can only suppose it's gonna be quite neat ^^
