PSA: Mass Effect 2 PS3 Cerberus Network issues currently being worked on
82
Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network is currently down on PS3. Joystiq has an email from EA support saying that the publisher is aware of the problem, and sources at Sony tell us it is working on a fix. There is also this EA support log which states: "The Cerberus Network and comic part of the Cerberus Network is currently down and hope to be up and working in next 24-48 hours."
We've contacted Sony and EA for an official explanation of the situation. Normally we'd guess this is a classic example of the "PSN hasn't updated yet" issue, but at the moment, neither corporation will confirm that.
Update: Players report it's working now.
[Thanks, Luke]

That's a damn shame if you just got the game and can't play the "Previously on Mass Effect:" comic :(.

@(Unverified) Because there is a certain amount of time between making a final build and releasing in stores. By releasing it as separate downloadable content they can continue working on it during that time period, allowing an earlier release and ROI, while delivering the same amount of content to customers sooner.

It's EAs way of making sure u don't buy a used copy. Otherwise you'd have to pay an extra $10 for that content.

It looks like they got the issue resolved after about three and a half hours of trying I am finally able to download the Cerberus Pack.

I'm in the middle of downloading the stupid 600+MB Cerberus pack that they didn't effing bother to put on a Blu-ray disc, and which doesn't even work right now. That's after waiting for a goddamn 20 minute install that they didn't bother having run in the background. Ugh...
I just picked up this and LBP2; guess I know what I'll be playing for the next "24-48" hours.

@Nobledevil Gaming Optimist I agree man can someone tell me why I have to install everything on the PS3. Map packs, themes, DLC, demos. On my Xbox i just download it and it's ready to go. I have never heard a explanation as to why it is this way.

Good luck putting it down after only 48 hours.

Apart from that issue, does anyone have any input on how the game looks? They're using the new engine correct?

Wait, am I to understand that the "previously on" comic that players (can optionally?) use to start a new game wont be available for up to 2 whole days? What an enormous f-ing epic fail on... well, somebody's part. I just picked up my copy and now I've got to refrain from starting ME2 because of this BS. The goddamn comic was touted as one of the biggest features of the PS3 version since many (I have) haven't played the 1st game... sort this sh!t out asshats, totally unacceptable on launch day.

Supposedly some people are able to download the pack now and thus use the motion comic. I just picked up LBP2 and am still trying to choose between dead space 2 and me2. Can't do both time wise.

I'm confused. is the comic part not on the game disc? what is the cerberus network?
I don't have internet at home, and wanted to get this game because I thought it would be a good sp campaign. What will I be missing out on by not being able to get on the cerberus network?

@eat it you will still enjoy the game. It's amazing. I guess you will just miss the comic and not be able to choose what happened in the first game. Is there anyway you can take your ps3 to a home with internet and download it there?

@eat it This is your game of the year edition. Don't let this little kink keep you from playing the best game of the year. You will still enjoy it no matter what. I promise you that. It is also designed to so if you never played the first one the game makes sense it takes it in to account.

I suppose, but now I'll wait for it to drop in price knowing that I won't get all of that extra stuff.
this is almost as annoying as living a half a mile away from Comcast HQ and having to pay $65 a month for the slowest broadband package.

Anyone want to share what the "required HDD space number" on the back of the case is?
Posted: Jan 18th 2011 3:17PM Voshempa said
@fakethis Thanks for the extra info, but I'm aware of what it is, even though my question definitely looked as if I was asking about it.
I will ask though, if the 5.3GB is for all content or maybe just for the game itself? I'm just wondering how much the extras will add (if any).

I want to play the Comic, as I haven't played the first game, but I don't want the game to be unbalanced because of the weapons, armor, and vehicles that are part of this Cerberus pack. Does anyone know if the bonus equipment unbalances the game?

@ParadoxPod
No worries. The heavy weapons are just fun to use. The armor, while providing some bonuses and looks cool, doesn't allow you to remove the helmet, which for a character and story based game, isn't that great. And the vehicle is only in specific DLC, Firewalker and Overlord.
