As lovers of RPGs, adventure games and terrible, terrible puns, it should come as no surprise that your average Joystiq writer is wildly in love with the Quest for Glory series. That's why we were positively thrilled to read a retrospective interview with the franchise's co-creator, Corey Cole, in which long-hidden secrets about the games' development were aired out. You know, things like inspirations for the series, explanations for some of the games' weirder inside jokes, and justification for Quest for Glory 4's many, many, so many bugs.
Cole also comments on where he'd like to see the franchise go from here, saying he'd love to see a Glory remake on modern consoles, adding "I think there is a vast untapped market out there of people who want more intelligent games and less death and destruction." A thousand times, yes. Check out the rest of the interview while we anxiously await any chance we can get to give this franchise more of our money.

The Quest for Glory games still stand as some of the top of my list of best games of all time.... except for maybe number 5, that one was kind of a let down imo.

Huge QFG fan. I hope now that GOG is releasing Police Quest and Kings Quest and the like, Hero's Quest (er, QFG) will be released as well. I would love for another chance to take a character all the way through (esp if I can finally make it through #3 -- the only one I was never able to complete!)
QFG 5 was great for people who were fans of the series. I honestly felt like it was a wonderful way of tying so many of the different games together and providing a good send-off for beloved characters.

I can't say for certain if we have the QFG series to thank for the word 'splendiferous,' but it gets the nod in my book. Can't count how many times I played through QFG1 & QFG2, ahhhhh the EGA days. Definitely dug 4 as well given the darker tone, but 3 for me was the red-headed step child of the group.

Hero's quest (renamed quest for glory due to the board game) was one of the best games I ever played, and when I saw it had sequels, I bought every one of them day one.
Well, I had my parents buy them. I was like 13 at the time. Now IM A MAN and buy my OWN GAMES! RAAAAWR!

@Cavall We had the same childhood (and, even better, adulthood). A relative gave me QFG1 for Christmas one year, knowing I loved video games but not knowing I didn't have a PC. I literally spent over a year reading the instruction manual and caressing the 3.5" disks within.
I played QFG 1 through again recently. I wouldn't say the humor is as fresh this time around, but more alarming was the fact that I remembered nearly every joke in the game.

If it wasn't for Quest for Glory, I wouldn't know how deceptively dangerous Antwerps are!

I really hope that the Quest for Glory series gets a remake in the vein of Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition one of these days. That would be awesome, but I'm sure no one at Activision even remembers these games exist. It is definitely one of my favorite series of all times. I sometimes miss the old Sierra days.

Here, here. I would drop a 20$ on an HD remake in a second. Heck, I'd even go up to 40$. I love QFG so much and still play them to this day.
....except 5. Five was just....it didn't feel at all like QFG, too much emphasis on "live" combat.
I'm still waiting for GOG to pick up the series so I can get a fresh copy without having to worry about my install disk and compatibility.

It's not about not wanting death and destruction, it's about wanting other, more complex things to go along with all the death and destruction.
Somebody remake Baldur's Gate saga please :(
