Wow, first you have to input your age using a pain in the ass drop down menu, then you have to watch a 30sec commercial, and then you get a banner that covers the video that you cant even close because theres no close button. Real damn classy.

All options on one page, full 'walkthrough' in form of ~25 videos.

I would assume that most people here are logged in to their Joystiq account, especially those commenting. Would it really be that hard for each persons age to be set by their account, which would then allow you to watch +17 videos without verifying your age at every video?
Seriously, can they not show game trailers or adds before the videos instead? Does AOL need that much more money that it has to allow all this crap...

I take it you've never heard of "ad-block"? The only time I'm forced to watch ads, are through videos like these.

Ad-block blocks EVERY ad on the internet for me, EXCEPT those on joystiq videos like this.
Makes me less inclined to visit joystiq, that's for sure. Their videos are just a pain to use, and chances are its already on 10 other sites that don't have the same problem.

@dpaul420 Videos (most of them anyway) are hosted not by JoyStiq but by Viddler... So JoyStiq can't exactly fix the video player to suit your needs. However they do have control over the API and if ads will be displayed. Telling them to sync your age with Viddlers restrictions isn't simple. Heck I don't even think IGN does that with their OWN player.

I dont mind ads as long as they arent long (longer than 15sec is WAY too long for a clip on the internet, leave that full episodes on Hulu), but I really hate the stupid age verification crap since it requires me to use those shitty drop down menus. Its so damn stupid, who is flagging these videos as inappropriate for Joystiq users who say MUCH worse things in the comments? If its age appropriate for Youtube then leave it the hell alone.
Ive been skipping all Joystiq videos up till now because of the dumbass age verification system which thinks anything remotely PG is equivalent to a porno. Color me unsurprised to see all this other bullshit attached to the video to make it even worse.

@aughscreennames Unfortunately, we don't have any control over the types of ads you see on the site, or in our video player. As many have noted, these are maintained by Viddler. However, I am definitely taking all of your complaints to heart, and hope we can come up with a better solution for you in the future.

You may not care about it, but it is a good step to getting gaming looked at as more than something for kids. We need ads that are not gaming related in order to get more eyes seeing the hobby that we love so much.
The more non gaming related ads, the broader of an audience we hit. Plus, those ads keep Joystiq free. I don't like them anymore than you, but hey, we might see an ad for something that we like.

What? People aren't watching random videos on the internet for ads!
Everyone who clicked on this video, clicked to see Mass Effect, not some TV Land commercial. No one here was brought to this video outside of Joystiq, so your audience isn't getting any broader by these useless ads.

Alright everyone i shall now explain how too keep from watching these ads you speak of. I have not seen any of these ads on joystiq vids you speak of for years now. You just have to know how to use ad block plus. Okay so first click play on the vid then look in the lower left hand corner of your browser screen to see where the data is transferring from. Then click on the ad block plus button and click on Open blockable items. Scroll through the list and find the address of where the ad is streaming from, right click and block that domain. Now repeat for any other ad u want to block. When you refresh the page all ads will be gone. Your welcome.

BIG Mass effect fan here. Saw this earlier in the week and was totally disappointed. Talk about skewing the story.

@Dionkey i didn't get to play the first mass effect so I'm glad this is here... that said, I agree with you. The comic is jarringly out of place with the rest of the art style and doesn't connect you with the characters it's introducing.
I had to watch it twice to figure out who I'd killed in one of the choices :/
I really would have preferred an extended FMV or cutscene breaking down the backstory here. even if it was just cut from the first game and given a voice over...
not a good start to what i was hoping to be a fun 24 hour romp into some syfy rpg'erie...

Watching this just reminded me of how big the Mass Effect world is. So many moments missing. Saren murdering Nihlus at the beginning of the game being one of them. Does Joker even get mentioned?
The choices presented here don't give the full context either so making the decisions doesn't really have any weight. Who you leave to die isn't just a question of which character you like most it's also a tactical question. That's what swayed me in my playthrough. Making sure the nuke went off.
If I only had a PS3 I would by ME1 for PC first and play that. The second game doesn't carry the same impact without journeying through the first.

i would rather see ads in the beginning of videos or at the top of webpages than not having joystiq. Joystiq makes money by allowing companies to post their advertisements on their page. By them making money they can run the website and pay authors.

very excited to try mass effect, never played the first so im glad they are filling us PS3 users with the firsts story.

Ads are fine. We all know this is a business, not a random guy's blog. But I don't need to see an ad followed by an ad followed by an ad over what I'm watching. I'm in advertising, make my living off this stuff, and even I wouldn't go this far. When you make your ads noticeable to the point it's annoying, you're not helping your image, you're hurting it. Not just for Joystiq, but for all the companies who advertise here.

This proves you cannot explain a 30-40 hour, epic story and universe in a 15 minute comic. Who would have guessed...

Geez I know, right? I mean, I was all applauding sharing the story with more people but... damn, I feel bad for the Sonybros. This is just barebones of the entire thing, with limbs missing. Not gonna know the creepiness of the Thorian, not get a chance to spread your influence with the smaller people, actually get time to know your crew.
I mean, "Save Wrex/ Kill Wrex?" SERIOUSLY?!? That took a loyalty check, not a paragon/renegade decision. Hell, he was more inclined to listen if you got his family armor for him. Not only that, they'll miss the various characteristics of most of the races, especially the Rachni, and how strange they were. This is just sad... someone tell me there's a chance that someday ME1 will wind up on PSN so I don't feel bad for them anymore.
Also, the artstyle, sorta good, mostly bad. I don't think this is the same artist who did the Redemption series, and they obviously should have stuck with them. For some reason all the alien faces looked smashed or squashed. And dual wielding? In MY MASS EFFECT?!? So yeah, artist not so successful.

It's short on plot, but all of the MAJOR points are covered. Too bad for anyone who has never played Mass Effect 1, but this is a pretty nice way to quickly get them up to speed. Bravo!

This is awesome for hard-core fans to quickly set up a new Mass Effect 2 game with whatever choices they want for the first game, but I can't imagine a new player following along very well.

This... is... so... bad. Man, if I hadn't played the first game and this was my introduction.... this would be a major hype kill for the game. It's... so.... boring....
I'll take the original game, with the combat flaws and dated graphics any day over this pile of crap.
