AKA Nintendo is too lazy to do an update for the Wii beyond providing minor annoyances to the homebrew channel.

Maybe because they can't because alot of games are tied-in with the current Mii set-up.
Im not 100% sure how it works technically though

@Coldbrand Many Wii games that support Miis use custom created depictions of Mii parts (example: Mario Kart Wii). It's not possible to update the Mii channel without screwing up the Mii support in those games.
Next time please think before you say something.

@IrateGamer Wow, think before I say something? Because saying something isn't an expression of thought? Keep your valueless, unoriginal comments that have been heard a thousand times to yourself. Anyhow, a REAL developer would simply put out compatibility updates for that content as well. But since Nintendo refuses to step into the 21st century with their games and the infrastructure of the Wii, we don't see that happening. Sorry you feel the need to apologize for Nintendo's laziness.

Notice how the games with avatar support on the Xbox didn't miraculously break when the 360 updated those? Yeah, it's called effort. Nintendo makes more money off their console than Microsoft does, so there's no real excuse in my eyes.

Next time shut up if you have nothing valuable to say.

@Coldbrand I'm sorry that you feel the need to make things up to make Nintendo look bad. It's not possible to patch games on the Wii and as I said before, games like "Mario Kart Wii" would most likely require new coding in order to be able to render the Mii's faces in levels like "Wario's Gold Mine". Nintendo did actually update a lot of things about the Wii since it launched in 2006. It's a shame that a lot of the things can't be changed anymore because of the narrow-mindedly programmed structure of the OS and games.

Wow you have no idea how the Wii works.

Mii support is built in natively into Wii games, so are the pause menus. I imagine back then it wasn't something to worry about so yea, it is a bit shortsighted of Nintendo. It's not lazy or anything like that (seriously , think before you speak).

A brand new games console that isn't out yet won't be compatible with a console from 2006, because those games from 2006 won't support a feature from a totally different 2011 console.

@Coldbrand

They don't get it. They don't get the idea that a company that has been innovating in gaming and making massive profits for years now, would be so shortsighted as to not invest in current system integration and expansion. That it wouldn't engineer new products to be more compatible with current massively popular products.

This approach does wonders for Nintendos bottom line. Compartmentalization.

Honestly, Nintendo should take a page from Sonys book here. I fully expect to link the next PSP to my PSN account and be able to play everything I can now on my PSP, on the new device. At no additional charge.

The inability of the Mii transfer back is a pretty obvious example of restraint in decisions for technology.

Mii's. What a joke anyway.

Down vote away.

@Nook Truthfully I don't even care about the Mii thing, it's just another example of Nintendo's unwillingness to do ANYTHING to update their console. That's why Smash Brothers still plays like shit online. They talk about updates, and I've seen those, but really, they did absolutely nothing I could perceive, except troll the homebrew channel, which is a waste of HD space considering they'd always fix it before even a single week passed.

@Coldbrand Can somebody explain to me how Coldbrand got voted up? As VeeDeeVee and I already pointed out he has no idea how the Wii works. It has nothing to do with Nintendo being lazy - they are tied to having to use the old Miis for Wii forever because of bad planing.

I'm sure an update is possible, and not doing so has nothing to do with laziness. However, what I think is more likely is that they're thinking of 3DS as being the portable to connect to their NEXT console.

I wish you weren't right, I'd really enjoy a major update my Wii console. Updated Miis, streamlined menus and channels into one coherent interface, print money from the disc tray..... I don't know, it's just seemed too plain for me.

@dudes113 I don't think they need to update the system's UI at all, actually, but I would also like to see some additional underlying features. One thing I'd like to see is the ability to aggregate all your SD card games into the main Wii menu instead of needing to load a separate menu.

2011 marks 5 years of Wii, though, and Nintendo typically launches consoles 5-6 years apart. Now that HDTV's have finally become prevalent, it makes sense to start thinking about releasing a successor to Wii.

PS3 and 360 graphics are still good enough that they can get away with lasting...well, probably a long goddamn time, to be realistic. The good news for Nintendo on that front is that they don't really need to outdo PS3/360 by much--really just in terms of things like physics and such--and introduce a new interface mechanic while keeping BC. I don't think we'll see a PS4 or Xbox 420 before 2013, but a Wii HD announcement at 2011's E3, followed by a holiday 2012 launch, would make a whole lotta sense.

Don't delude yourself, the Wii UI is terrible. The paltry internal memory and inability to display SD stored games from the main menu is a jarring disconnect in the experience when having to go to the SD menu. And Nintendo is all about selling the experience, right?

The Wii could use an update for that area.

@Nook No, actually, the Wii UI is not terrible. It's a design exercise in ease of use. I agree with you (and already said as much) that it'd be nice to aggregate the content from the SD card into the main interface, as yes, it's a bit jarring. However, that's a relatively small complaint.

It'd be silly for them to adjust the internal storage at this point (just wait for the next console), especially since the Wii natively supports SD cards up to 32GB. The content on Wii simply doesn't need more space.

They could update the Mii Channel. It's just those Mii's will never work in any title that doesn't support them. So, currently, that's 100% of the Wii games market.

Yeah, you can't transfer your Miis instead of re-creating them on the Wii, the 3DS is bullshit.

I'm glad they've given the Mii editor more options, but it's looking there will still be only 8 colours to choose from for both hair and clothing. :S

I'll probably be importing then, as I probably don't look anything like my Mii anymore, but I don't want to update, and the face-recognition software will probably end up being something diffferent.

As much as I'd love Nintendo to update the Mii Channel or how about the Wii UI to match the 3DS...

We are talking about the same company that annoyingly baked their DS WiFi component without any ability to update it so people don't have to drop their wireless security to the inferior WEP encryption in order to game on it.

It took the Mii Channel to not have backwards compatibility for people to finally start abundantly saying what I've been saying all along, about the Wii needing a new UI and a nice, big update? Geez. Anyway, update the Wii, and.... well okay, Miis are just dumb. The characters in PS Home are the most customisable between the three current home consoles, as far as I'm aware (although maybe the Xbox has more clothes to buy; I don't know and I don't care because I'm not a halfwit who buys digital cloths), and they are still pathetic. If I wanted something to represent myself online, I'd get a WEBCAM.

@TCJJ Are you kidding? The characters in PS Home are TERRIBLE. They're butt-ass ugly, have zero style, personality or design charm. They're a train wreck and it's next to impossible to get one to look like you just with the basic tools. Meanwhile, it's easy to make a Mii or even an Xbox Live avatar to have a cartoony but recognizable version of your own face. Both are superior examples of artistic design to PS Home's characters.

I think they can just somehow dumb down the Mii's to transfer to the Wii, like remove extra features and change the edited features to look-alikes, or just allow transfer of Mii's that are made certain way
