Bethesda, you've made me a happy boy. No, not because you gave me the ability to mod Skyrim, no. No, no. That's way over my head.

But because you gave /others/ the ability to. Now I can play their sweet, sweet, succulent TES Mod gold.

God I wish someone would come up with a console that is more like a PC. Why not a console, or maybe even just a game, that allows modding tools like this in it's standard framework as long as it's not a game where online play based on public servers can be exploited? It's not that hard to hook up a mouse and a keyboard. So far LBP is the only thing that offers any kind of dev kit sort of thing, and even that's still a dumbed down toolset compared to the ability to create anything that the developers have access too.

As long as it locks people out of things like Achievements and Trophies so they can't cheat those systems, say something along the lines of you must earn all achievements and trophies with mods deactivated (with a toggle somewhere in the main menu of the game that activates and deactivates installed mods). Couple that with a dispersal system like LBP has and you have what is likely to be the greatest console game of all time.

*sigh* Maybe someday. Until then I'll have to keep saving towards a computer.

Won't happen, it would be nice but some mods can cause software problems if not programed correctly, hence, you most likely can mod the consoles OSs. A Big No No by Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.

Consoles will always remain closed unfortunately.

Just get a PC, its not eve that expensive and save a lot of money in the middle and long run.

Unreal tournament 3 allowed for mod support on the ps3. KB+M support as well.

Unfortunately... it is that expensive. Especially if you want to run something like Skyrim in all it's glory. Right now I'd need a good vid card, or multiple, which is 50-60 bucks, add an HDTV to be used as a monitor since I need to upgrade from my 1080i tube HD for around 300, the gaming case that I bought for $70, add a motherboard that supports i series processors and DDR3 memory for several hundred dollars, power supply for around 30-60, then the fan set or, my preference performance wise, a couple hundred for i series compatible liquid cooling system. So, 50 + 70 + 60 + 150 + 300 and up for a state of the art motherboard. That's mid 500s, not including the monitor OR the cooling system, or many other essential parts. Your looking at around 1k plus money for a monitor. As a full time student I don't have the money to buy the parts or time to assemble it and preassembled units are so ridiculously overpriced, especially considering most of them are probably put together by automated assembly lines and not actual people, compared to something you've built yourself that there is no way I could justify spending that kind of money. i3 laptops are a grand as it is, not even close to an option.

@oJMan240o Bingo. There's no point in playing a Bethesda game without mods. I was shocked when I discovered there was no modding for their 360 titles. It's a little extra work to deliver mods, but it would be worth it. Between that and the lack of custom controller layouts, it's like a frikking kiddie console. I can live with my boss telling me how to do my job, but why the frak would I want someone telling me how to play my games?

This walled garden BS is getting old.

The Specs for this game aren't even going to high...

you can easy max it out with a budget of $600.../not including a monitor or keyboard and mouse combo.

I just made my brother a good computer, Ultra/Very High Most Games and High on others for 545$.

Made my friend a similar computer for 525$

and just recently like today, I made my other friend a computer for $575 (Way Better then my bros and and other friends)

My Computer cost me around $750...and I can max out every game including Metro 2033.

Really? The set controls are what have created a walled garden for you? Because of that there is no point in playing their games? If that's true, you are taking silly little things way too seriously.

I keep a towel by my chair for news like this.

Considering how much support Bethesda gives the modding scene for previous games, I doubt they wouldn't have done this but it's great to know that the game will be easily expandable. The construction kit means that Oblivion, a nigh five year old game, has even now got an expanding lifeline. Excellent.

I just got done playing some Oblivion with some new mods. I've been doing this for nearly five years. I had Oblivion on 360 when it first came out, it lasted me less than six months.

Five years down the road and still getting fresh content? That's putting your $60 to work, son.

This is when I wonder what life would be like as a PC gamer. The hardware changes have slowed, yeah? Though I would not contribute anything with mods, because I have no idea how to do that right now, but it'd be awesome applying mods created by talented folks.

"This is when I wonder what life would be like as a PC gamer. The hardware changes have slowed, yeah?"

No, PC hardware continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Intel releases a new CPU architecture once every two years with a die-shrunk, cheaper refresh released in the interim; AMD follows suit when it can. The GPU market behaves in very similar, but quicker fashion; each vendor releases a new architecture once every year with either a die-shrunk "kicker" card or a heavily modified form of that architecture released 6-8 months after launch.

Having said that, while the hardware arms race hasn't slowed, the need to upgrade one's hardware in order to play that latest games has. With the exception of a small handful of games (Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Metro 2003, GTA IV, GTA: EFLC, and Lost Planet 2), a PC gamer with a solid 4 year old desktop (Core 2 Duo paired with a Geforce 8800 GT or GTX) can play nearly every contemporary title at a high resolution with nearly maxed out image quality settings.

I don't want to kill it off, I just want it to be more accessible. There is a very steep learning curve, and ability to grasp technical jargon, that is required in order to build and maintain a gaming rig and work with the mods that people release. Going through game folders alone makes most people's head spin.

Consoles have K.I.S.S. going for them, they keep it simple. There aren't a bunch of buttons, you don't need to customize things a whole bunch before you play, there's no quality settings, and there's no system requirements. It's, for lack of a better phrase, point and click. You put the disc in the tray, load it up, press start and your off. It rarely confuses anyone. However, trying to figure out whether or not a game will even run on your system is often a chore for PCs because there are so many of parameters you have to consider that play no factor at all in console gaming.

Granted, Steam has made things much easier on PC gamers, but it's still nowhere near as simple as consoles. You don't have to worry though, eventually console gaming will fold right back into PC gaming as the systems approach a power level equivalent to PCs and people deem these separate systems unnecessary when they can have something that does everything, IE a PC, instead.

Thank god for PC mod support. Given Bethesda's track record with xbox 360, they will get tons of either exclusive or time-exclusive dlc. At least the modders can add life to the game while we wait for official expansions.

well there was too much words I can't keep up but why not there will be mods on consoles think of it as an optional patch or a free dlc by modders with sony permission.

See, the problem with your argument are the words "Sony" and "permission" which, by definition, don't belong in the same sentence. See PS3 no longer emulating PS2 games and PS3 no longer allowing Linux.

On the PS3? Not likely.

On the XBox360? No way.

The mod community have truly kept Morrowind and Oblivion kicking longer than anyone could have expected. If they let these mods appear on consoles it will just be the most incredible news that I won't believe till I see it.
