Love Kojima and Metal Gear Solid (all since PSOne). Playing the first one on PSOne is probably my favorite gaming memory of all time. The man and his games are BRILLIANT.

i love MGS, everything about it, i didn't even mind Jack in MGS2. too bad that didn't help me to understand the story.

Ditto to the first comment.
This kind of things are so awesome. Remember when all that Mario 25th Anniversary thing start coming out, its just silly, but I love this kind of news.

So many games in the industry, yet just a handful of franchises feel like something else than mere games.

I felt ripped off as a kid renting Metal Gear on NES. I just thought it was another broken game for NES. Maybe it was because I was young and impatient or maybe the game really did suck.

@FriedConsole NES version was a lame port of the original Metal Gear, something a lot of people don't know.

Not only that, Metal Gear 2 for NES (Snake's Revenge) had no involvement from Kojima whatsoever. He eventually made Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, but it was never released for NES.

Depends on what you mean by "MG 2"

Metal Gear 2, the one we recieved here in the US, was never considered canon. In fact, I don't remember exactly all the details, but he had no involvement in it, and the "real" Metal Gear 2 was never released here. We got some kind of "unofficial" sequel.

It's sort of like the Mario 2/Mario USA thing. One sequel in one country was never considered a true sequel. Except in that case the original company claimed both, and didn't shun the other one.

@xxMayDay31xx MGS1 is more a less a combination of Metal Gear 1 and 2, remade into 90s 3D gameplay.

@wcarnation

MGS is a completely separate plot that takes into consideration events that happened during MG1 and 2, for example, McDonnel Miller--who coached Snake in MG2--being killed and Liquid assuming his identity to get Snake to do his bidding in MGS1.

It's great when developers do stuff like this. We shouldn't have to wait till the 25th anniversary of a series to see design documents and stuff like that. As a fan, this type of thing is my catnip, and the sooner it comes out, the better.

Maybe he should resubmit this proposal to Konami again and see if it would be rejected for the second time.

@Amristar It probably still would be rejected if it was left as it was originally intended to be. It may have just not been that good.

I just re-purchased an NES last week (been wanting to since mine broke years ago) and I've been building a collection. Metal Gear was the first game I bought. Found it for a dollar, and it even came with the dust cover and original game manual. Anyway, it doesn't really play as well as the MGS series, but it seemed kinda neat. I feel asleep.

@BizarroPunisher You should play the MSX2 versions of MG 1 and 2. I think they are available as extras on Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.

Probably my favorite franchise in gaming history. I'd love a chance to own some original concept art signed by Kojima.
