Hey, maybe Chu should have just used it without asking. ... What's that, Captain Lou? ... Oh, OK, never mind.
Nintendo denies use of Mario theme in Justin Bieber movie
93
According to a tweet from director John Chu, Nintendo prohibited a 15-second clip of the Super Mario Bros. theme song from being used in an upcoming film adaptation of pop prince Justin Bieber's life, Crank 3 Never Say Never. Chu seemed frustrated, but we understand why a company like Nintendo has to be so careful about how its flagship property is used. Also, our condolences to Justin Bieber, whom Nintendo apparently ranks just slightly below shampoo, cereal, slippers, piñatas, and, of course, this. Sleep well, buddy.
Hey, maybe Chu should have just used it without asking. ... What's that, Captain Lou? ... Oh, OK, never mind.

Nintendo just didn't want their classics to be held in the same regard as Bieber's trash he calls "music."

I don't care if Bieber was in it, I would watch the hell out of Crank 3.

I'm kinda tired of people ripping on this kid. At first I was all on board because, well, he's Justin Bieber. But now on Youtube, if you go to any music video the most thumbed up comment is always "THIS is REAL music, not like Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber!" and the second most thumbed up comment is "F**k you Vevo!"
Plus he's a kid. I'll gladly run him over with a stretch Hummer (repeatedly) when he grows up, but until then, I'll just keep to my healthy hatred of Dane Cook.

Jack Kevorkian likes Justin Beiber!? Ahhhh... Because his music brings in more buisness!
I realize it's hypocritical of me to make fun of him after what I just wrote. But the setup for that was just too obvious and if I didn't say it, someone else would have...

I love how Nintendo makes judgment calls for how they'll allow their material to be used on the basis of taste (c.f. their go-ahead to Edgar Wright and Bryan Lee O'Malley re: Scott Pilgrim).
Also, I love you, Justin McElroy. That header image had me laughing more than anything this week.

Edgar Wright went and personally showed Scott Pilgrim to Miyamoto in order to get permission to use the Zelda music.
This guy asks a month before the movie's release, makes a hissy fit when denied, and thinks his movie will be "free advertising". It's kinda obvious why Nintendo made their decision.

Other things Nintendo ranks above Justin Bieber; dirt, toilets, more dirt, Sony, 90's SEGA, the devil, dirtier dirt, and Bill from accounting.

Based on the up-votes on everyone's posts, it's safe to agree that we ALL cannot stand that kid's fame and success story.
All he did was steal black talent and aim it at a white audience. Smart, but its not like it hasn't been don't before.
