Japanese hardware sales, Jan. 10 - Jan. 16: Football Fantasy edition

We feel compelled to further associate with our fellow man by finally acquainting ourselves with the intricacies of American football. Apparently, there are quite a few rules and regulations to wrap our minds around -- so we've come up with an airtight series of analogies to help us remember the responsibilities of each of the huge, huge dudes on the field. See, if you really think about it, each player is basically filling the role of a traditional RPG archetype. Here's a quick summary:

Offensive linemen are the tanks, soaking up the damage dealt by the opposing team's defense while protecting their team's squishier players.
Quarterbacks are the magic users, dealing large amounts of damage (gained yards) -- though they can't take much damage in return. Also? A lot of quarterbacks know how to use magic.
Wide receivers are the thieves -- not because they're quick and agile, but because so many of them are just so darn charismatic.
The healers are represented by the sideline physical therapists. Like, obviously. You probably figured that one out on your own.

It's way too frequent of an occurrence that I say Final Fantasy at work meaning to say Fantasy Football.

Wow. PS3 down 44% and still beat out the second-place PSP. Japan is certainly dominated by Sony lately. I assume because every man, woman, and child has multiple DSes each and a Wii between them.

Wel, if you add up the various iterations of the DS it's usually more than the PSP, so take from that what you will.

That both the DS and PSP are selling well in Japan?

@scratchh roughly 127 million people live in Japan so it has maybe a 20% penetration rate.

The DS has sold 2x as much as the PSP has been sold world wide.

Hey Running Back could be the Melee DPS.

And the kicker could be the randomly generated NPC soldier that is selected by your quest giver, (the coach), to accompany your group into the final battle against the demon hell bent on taking over the world. Nobody cares if the soldier makes it, they just hope he can kill a couple skeletons, (make a couple PAT attemps). And if by chance the soldier actually makes it through the final battle you might get a semi-funny, if not awkward, comment at the final cutscene, (news conference), crowning you the hero of the world, (Superbowl Champions).
