@Shalabi - This won't have a monthly or yearly contract. The reason you even get on a contract with a mobile phone provider is because you purchase a new phone through them at a huge discount with new service.

If you already have a device that works on their network then you just go on a month to month plan with the option of being able to cancel at anytime, or if your current device is capable of being a hotspot for other devices then you can pay the extra $20 or so for the feature on your current mobile plan and then connect to it that way. Which would be a whole lot cheaper than getting a regular monthly data only plan because for that it's going to be $59.99 for 5 GB a month if it's with Verizon Wireless which has the best network especially for data.

Oh and unfortunately even using your mobile device as a hotspot would have a data rate limit as well, which I believe might be smaller than the normal 5 GB's on a data only plan. I'm thinking it's 2 GB's, but I could be wrong and it still could have the same 5 GB limit? I never fully looked into it because once I saw it was going to cost an additional $20 feature on top of the voice and data plan I pay for now, I looked the other way. Plus it's not like I really have anything else that would have used it. My PSP 3000 but that would be rarely and just to maybe browse the web on it or getting updates. So it definitely wouldn't be worth an extra $20 to have that feature on my Droid X as it would never be used except rare occasions and even those would be rare lol.

I wouldn't say that right away. It does, however, give a feel of an iPad with buttons (and that's not an insult).

@Shalabi I agree with you, I would totally suspect you have to pay to use the 3G service... you do on the 3G iPad, for the MiFi, etc etc. The Kindle doesn't charge you for monthly service, but instead buries the price into the book (or whatever) you're downloading. I can't imagine them giving you 3G service for free though to play games.

Now, WiFi would be (could be) free, but we don't know if WiFi is supported...

@xxZOMBIExx Everything you said is why 3G isn't a great idea. If they can offer free 3G for PSP2 owners, then it becomes a much more simple and appealing feature. I'm not going to foot the monthly bill for 3G access.

This will definitely replace my 3G iPad if true. And also, OLED displays are beautiful. PSP2 is sounding very impressive hardware wise. Eagerly awaiting more news.

Also if this thing has full backwards compatibility? Yeah. That would be amazing. The PSP library is full of too many good games and my busy life doesn't give me chance to play them all. So I gotta think about the future.

If there's any Backwards compatability at all it'll only be with the downloadable titles since they're not supporting UMD on this device.

Really? Have you got any links to prove this? This is the kind of thing I need to be sure on... people complained about UMD but it was good, cheap way of cramming a lot of data on the go (before flash prices dropped).

Hopefully there is a model with Wifi only, I already have an Android phone with Wifi Hotspot from Android 2.2 and I can't use it for my PSP because it only support the older less secure WPA, and I do not think that to create a open hotspot on my phone is a wise idea. I do not want another contract for a PSP2

From a security stand point, WPA is more than enough protection for a WiFi network.

@PiiSPii There are already vulnerabilities for WPA-TKIP, so that is the reason Android 2.2 only supports WPA2, and the PSP is only WPA so there is no way to use them together

My Samsung Focus already has a 3G connection, a SAMOLED screen and Xbox Live games.

With the portable gaming situation on phone really improving, does anyone else lose a lot of hype for the PSP2 and 3DS? I'm not even sure I want these devices right now.

Of course, it'll come down to software, if there is any must-own games.

Course I want them, because (as an HTC Desire and iPhone owner) mobile phone games are still shit. There are some gems out there but nothing along the lines of real Mario, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda, Pokemon or Monster Hunter games. There are plenty of cheap clones and lots of little, fun timewaster games though.

@Entegy I feel the same. There are unique and hardcore smartphone games. I don't NEED to play a certain franchise on a portable, I just want fun games. I'll always be a console gamer but portable is changing fast.

@RickGhastly - it has buttons and analog stick(s) (hopefully it is 2 sticks this time) as well as a D-pad. SO I wouldn't be worried about it having a touchscreen. If it does have one, its probably only for movies, music, and maybe for internet browsing when you have the controls closed/hidden behind/under the screen if it is a slider.
