So let me get this straight:

-Made by the people who made Timesplitters
-Sequel to arguably the best graphics EVER in a game
-Situational controls (a la Mirrors edge free running)

TAKE MY MONEY. ALL OF IT. AND ALL FUTURE MONEY I MAY EARN.

i would prefer a tf2 style unlockable system though. 50 hours is not a lot of gameplay

Shooters are finally starting to deepen. I don't mean RPGs, gimmicks, etc. I mean putting the person back in first person and putting greater emphasis on movement, team placement and strategic advancement without the need for finish-my-sentence level communication. The last shooter in my mind that did this well in a multiplayer setting was Shadowrun. I as a player who excelled in movement and field awareness was able to thrive in a sea of dead-accurate shot players. Though it didn't succeed commercially. I'm psyched to see games like Crysis 2 and Brink finally rearing their head. It's a great time to love FPSs.

as a graphics professional I hate that I live in a world where "best graphics" means most realistic.

what happened to art direction and creativity?

As much as you may want me to, i'm not going to delve into the "are games art" debate. I agree with you to an extent (Okami in my opinions has the best art style of any game ever) but I also think that realism is important in a serious game.

It's kind of about finding the balance, if a game leans too heavily on realism, it can feel slow and two dimensional, but if it leans too heavily on artsy stylishness, then it loses substance and stops being a game (see Linger in Shadows).

When I look at games like TF2 still dominating the Steam activity charts, I don't doubt for a second that realism=best.

Art direction will always be king. Which is why people looked down at Sonic 4 (a mess of a visual mess), yet look up to TF2, CoD and Minecraft.

@Rob Liv Crysis 2 graphics look meh now compared to something like Uncharted 2. not being a fanboy, just saying crysis is a lil overated now but the graphics were the best when it was out but the gameplay was so meh with dumb A.I.,short story, and a ok online component.

Go look at Mechwarrior: Living Legends, a modification made for Crysis that really pushes its graphic engine to the limits. Uncharted 2? Bah.

I'm really excited to see Crysis 2, MOSTLY because of the great fun modding Crysis was before and what opportunities lie in store for the new engine, but ALSO because it's an FPS that's showing a little bit of depth and ingenuity in its gameplay. Might we finally be seeing some real innovation in the FPS genre?

@Rob Liv "Arguably" is the best word you could have used in that line.

But I love how this sounds. I'm not much for super human abilities but I love situational game play and tactics. I've never been the best at "point and shoot" like 90% of the encounters in games like CoD but I excel when I play tactically (and have a team that does the same). Socom and (moments with friends in) Bad Company 1/2 and Killzone come to mind. When I don't run around like an idiot and play objectively I'm great and I'm glad a developer is creating that kind of an environment.

Yip...until the dendrophiliac homebrewers come along and dick it up. I pray that Cryteck has taken all that into consideration, so that the gamers interested in this game can have clean fun with the multiplayer.

Honestly, it is the internet(z). People can't bring themselves to use proper grammar in real life situations, why would they expend the energy on a website? They should, I am just saying that it won't happen. Ever.....

I played the beta a few months ago and really enjoyed what I played. To me it's a refresh of playing FPSs online. From what ive played, I WILL be buying this game. Now I just have to figure out should I get it on 360 or PS3?

Don't forget the multiplayer demo will be on Live tomorrow!!!

360 is most likely the lead platform, has an exclusive demo and probably have another exclusivity deal down the line.

The game could also potentially tie in to Codename Kingdoms in some whimsical way, but it's the little things that count.

and if only I actually played Call of Duty and wasn't making a general comment about that fact that 90% of multiplayer components added to single player games are ignored shortly after release just like the previous Crysis or other Crytek games...

then you might have had a point.

Assumption fail.

I like this. Sometimes I get bored of the die respawn die respawn gameplay of BlackOps. Its what made Gears 1 fun. Just 4 vs 4 and you could actually come up with REAL gameplans.

@xFenixKnightx You could technically do the same thing with BF:BC2, game plans that is. Problem with COD series was the stupid small arse maps and inane accuracy of the guns, well at least the modern series, not the WWII series. Hell, I don't even have to mention BF:BC2. I could mention BF2. Or 2142. BF1942 to a certain extent. Why? Maps were huuuuuge. It was also more squad centered, with certain roles.

I expected that kind of response from a console gamer.

It doesn't matter if the engine supports all 3, since one of those platforms is a powerful PC and the other 2, well they're not.

Half Life 2 and Doom 3 made it to the original Xbox. Could it also run Left4Dead 2 and the new Wolfenstein?
Nope.

I'm really starting to get nervous about this. A lot of the buzz has been for the Xbox 360 build of the game, and nothing has been said concerning the PS3 version of the game. Crytek said graphically they'd look identical, but that the game would perform slightly better on the PS3. But, what have we seen? Everything's been pushed for Xbox 360 including the EA Press Conference Demo at E3 (an Xbox 360 build), and now this. It just makes we wonder. Are they having difficultly with pixel cramming, shaders, or is the RAM a hindrance, as usually is for a poor frame rate. EA and Crytek don't really seem to be standing by their word that Crysis 2 is best experienced on the PS3. Every other game at E3 this year, concerning EA, were all demoed on the PS3 platform, except for this one.

Not sure what to think.

@neoXmahi The other way to look at is that they are demoing it on the least powerful system proving that it runs great and leaving people imagining that it's only uphill from here.

@neoXmahi it probably because they can make a Demo easier for 360(it's free) than ps3(u gotta pay to make a demo). otherwise EA's other games that were created with PS3 as the lead platform are great for example BFBC2,BFBC,MOH2,Dead Space 1 and 2,Mirrors Edge, and more.

In the original Crysis, one of the bizzare things was how you always had to remember to de-cloak before you fired or, you'd zero your energy and then, de-cloak due to no energy (followed by a likely death). I guess the billion dollar suit hasn't figured out how to do that yet.

MP for Crysis had the worst hacks/cheats since Diablo I, it was bad...really, really bad. Also, some pretty horrible hit detection and bad balancing. It was sad because the rest of the game was pretty awesome. I would absolutely never pre-order this one though; I want to see what the forums look like 1 month after release first.
