Maybe the axe was duct taped to a chainsaw. Or more likely a sledgehammer.

We've heard in the past that this is a network issue - his zombie-based attacks caused lag because of all the extra models.

Andore was the character's name/model in the Final Fight series. Hugo was first introduced in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact based on the Andore character. Even Frank West knows this, he's covered wars.

I get it, ok....DLC packs offer the opportunity (if you choose) in buying things not included originally.

So maybe I'm being cynical but I don't like DLC as the method in which to get additional things, because it lets developers halfassedly release an unfinished game and then add things after the fact. Problem number 2 about DLC characters means people who don't buy them are left out, meanwhile people who do buy them can whore them out....and given the nature of the Vs. games and a handful being top tier while the rest are garbage....who's to say how many DLC characters will end up being top tier, meaning if you want to play competitively against someone who is skilled at the game, you have to open your wallet after buying the game just to stay relevant and have a chance? WTF kind of crap is that?

Again, maybe I'm being over-cynical but I don't like this direction Capcom is taking with this game. Less characters than MvC2, some fan favorites missing....oh, but they'll let you pay extra after launch and ADD them?? I know, I know, "vote with your wallet" yeah yeah. I'm just saying. Capcom has always milked people dry with Street Fighter, but DLC characters is beyond ridiculous.

@zero2dash Stop buying Japanese games then. Namco, Konami and Capcom are the three kings of leaving out content that has been free for decades. At least with the better western developers you get the sense some time was put into the dlc post release.

I look to Battlefield, Borderlands, Shivering Isles, Burnout Paradise and Red Dead as some recent examples. One the other side look at SFIV costumes, fegging Namco's 78kb disc unlock codes that cost $ on every game they make and Konami's Castlevania multiple $$$ for 64 bit updates to see the other side.

Sega and SE at least have the common decency to stay out of the dlc arena they know so little about. For the most part...Front Mission has some crummy dlc offerings that would have been better served getting people interested in the game instead of the four sales they made.

this has been said too many times before.. actually gets tiring to read it. this topic mostly also comes up with capcom titles also. but nothing will ever be done about it. this is the future of the gaming economy and i have already come to terms with it. ...have you?

note, devs are prone to releasing GOTY editions a year later with early, or all dlc on it. so if you anticipate a game will have much dlc, WAIT A YEAR! its what i do lately. but obviously, there will be games you just cant wait for. you just gotta be smart about it.

agreed. EA is pretty ridiculous about this, too. as far as i know, EA is one of the originators in announcing downloadable content for games that haven't even hit the shelves yet, and they've been doing so with one of my favorite developers ever: BioWare.

@Liquidfingers - At least with EA though, that DLC is normally given away for free to purchasers of new copies of the game, or often as part of a bonus 'limited edition' that's the same price as the normal edition that everyone who orders early gets.

@Liquidfingers at least with EA they are actual packs of data. Witht he Japanese developers they are always less than 200kb...meaning they are already on the disc. And even though EA can be bad they do have shining examples of great DLC. Burnout Paradise and Battlefield being two.

The Japanese really have...none. None at all. Ever.

While I can agree with most of your complaints (The DLC scheme is total crap, in general; it's more often used to extort players than to provide actual NEW content), there's one thing I don't:

"Less characters than MvC2"

MvC2's cast wasn't too hard to assemble. It was, mostly, an asset dump of previous fighting games. There were few new characters they had to create for that game.
Whereas with MvC3, it's a completely original art direction, no reused assets here (new models, new textures, and new animations). Well, it's possible a few models might have been reused, but it's harder to tell with 3D models than 2D sprites...

I agree, but the sheer # of characters has to count for something.
I've been yearning for a Vs. game of every practically ever Capcom character ever created, and MvC2 was getting fairly close to that....at least closer than MvC3 is.

Yeah, most of them in 2 were sprite dumps and 3 is created from the ground up....however if given the choice I'd rather have another 2D game of sprite dumps and have a larger character list than go for something more flashy with just over 1/2 the cast of the previous title. It almost makes me wonder whether or not the new art direction was merely for the sake of being able to use the excuse of "creating everything from scratch so we can come up with new chars later as DLC and charge for them".

"At least with the better western developers you get the sense some time was put into the dlc post release."
I seem to remember Modern Warfare 2's map packs being the more expensive than any of it's competitors and consisting mainly of maps copy pasted from previous games in the series. I don't think this is an issue with Japanese developers.

"Sega and SE at least have the common decency to stay out of the dlc arena they know so little about"
Sonic and Sega All Stars Racers has dlc codes to unlock everything, as well as dlc characters that were completed before the game shipped.

@DreadArrow - I don't know about the Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing example specifically but remember, there's a difference of about a month (sometimes more) between between when a game is done and when it has shipped so just because something was done before the game shipped doesn't mean that it was done before the game was finished and could've been included on the disc.

@Cleric Capcom's gotten "smart" about those unlock codes. With Dead Rising 2 (and probably Street Fighter IV) they actually leave the DLC content off the disc, and make you download it all when you buy it. Then they also put out "free" packs that contain all the data in order to see other people use it...you just can't use it yourself.

I think this is actually worse 'cause it takes up more hard drive space.
