@Gritzor Same here. Along with the Uncharted games, Dead Space is my favorite game this generation, and the only games I still felt like playing after achieving the Platinum trophies!

Btw; is there no survival/horde coop mode in this game? I can't find any info on it, and it seems like a missed opportunity if it's not included...

Still saddened over the lack of Move support :(

Maybe a future patch?

I've been saying this as well! Every other game I have a platinum on I'm sick of, except dead space.

Great review. I found the demo and the MP beta to be worrisome, but it seems my fears were irrational. Looking forward to playing this all week.

@globulus

You do realize that (no offense Joystiq) this isn't the only review of DS2 in the world, right? I'm a huge Dead Space fan, so I've been keeping up with most of it's reviews so far, and based on what I've read, it seems that the MP component isn't detrimental to the overall game like I thought it might be, that's all.

@King Johngie the Fourth I dont think joystiq or really any other game site would hold it against you for looking at other gaming sites before you make you purchases. Thats kind of the point to them all, give you an opinion that you are interested in hearing. If you weren't, you'd never come here in the first place. I for one am glad theres places like this that can give objective reviews and help make us realize theres more potential than what we get from a 20 min or so demo. Good on ya.

Ugh. Good review. I'm gonna have to... *shudder* pick this up at some point. Dammit. Definitely gotta tip my cap, though, the fact that they created an atmosphere in the first one that was spooky enough where I could only, at most, play a chapter in a sitting was impressive. Loaned it to a buddy whose initial thoughts were "well, yeah, I mean it's great dude, yeah. But for godssakes I can't really handle playing it for more than an hour at a time."

Sigh. Side note, wash your hands cartoony animal reminds me of miiiiissssssstaaaaaah spaaaaaaarkle!!!

@MarkezJM I still haven't finished the first one...they did a good job of making me hate switches, wall panels, corners, long empty hallways, T intersections, doors, windows, tunnels, ceiling panels, floor panels. The only places I felt comfortable was in zero g because they were so slow it was easy to mow them down.

I fired up the demo and after the first scare moment had to turn it off for a few days...finally got around to playing it all the way through and yeah I definitely have a familiar sense of dread.

I'm glad this game turned out good. I was getting a bit worried after I saw some of its trailers. The first game was great and this seems to live up to its standards.

I'm not really into horror type games, but I played the first one doing a hotseat type game with my friend (switch off when you die) and it was a blast. I'll probably end up playing this one as well, and likely enjoy it just as much as the first.

man, if you have a kmart near you, you can buy lbp2 for $60, get DS2 half off (cuz of lbp2) then on top of that get a $20 psn or xbox live card (when you buy DS2). $90 for a $140 value. ill take it.

PLUS you can sell your sir isaac clarke dragon age 2 code on ebay and make a quick $20

*stares at both games on shelf*. I think I've hit my budget for the year... and it's January.

Dear Greg Miller of IGN, this is how you write a proper review. Not like the horse-apples you churned out a few days ago:

@A Sandwich I had written a very lengthy reply explaining why 'to' in that case was not a preposition but was instead the particle of an infinitive verb (with the implied 'see' creating the rest of the infinitive). I then went on to point out that ending a clause with a preposition isn't wrong in and of itself, just that it usually leads to the incorrect case being used for the target of the preposition. It was awesome. But you did a very thorough job at pointing out his flaws. Kudos!

A wholly unsuccessful vivisection. Not only does the author misspell the word "eloquently," he also manages to bungle a singular verb, instead opting for the pluralized version.

Regardless, Mr. Miller's writing is unbelievably poor, especially in light of his ability to express himself verbally via podcasts on a weekly basis.

"The thrust of Dead Space 2 is almost exactly the same as the original. As engineer Isaac Clarke, you must explore a massive space station called the Sprawl, work with various characters and kill Necromorphs"

as i recall from the original, working with characters just means that isaac does absolutely everything for everyone while being scared stiff while they get to hide in the nice safe room and complain all the time. they only die when they're about to become useful
