Looks good and this is the first time I've heard about this amazing game! I don't know what I'd do without you Joystiq! :] *goes to the site to bookmark*

Smart move on the early choice to separate from the Quake 2 IP. The entire Quake universe could be recreated over lunch with a pizza, but the effects of licensing and royalties are forever.

@CrumbBum Not just that, but we are forced into a corner where we can't do our own designs etc.

Great that it's free, but I lost interest at "team based".

"Players gain XP per game which promotes them in rank, which in turn can be used to match you up with players of similier skill"

Somewhere in there is a typo.

"The original time line was "before Duke Nukem Forever" but Gearbox have messed that one up for us by actually releasing it."

That's rich.

These guys sound like pretty nice folks, if nothing else. I'll be downloading OverDose when it's out.

"Before Duke Nukem Forever" haha, awesome. This games sounds pretty awesome, the freedom of movement is particularly attractive, that sounds exactly like one of those awesome idea everybody has wanted to be in games for decades, and best of all, they sound super passionate about it. Definitely buying this when I can

Looks like the same graphics as Mirror's Edge.

Er, engine. Maybe. Whatever.

Looks good.

OK, even with the engine being incomplete, that was a pretty impressive video. I wonder how the frame rate will stack up when it's complete and the game world is populated with NPCs.

This game is very pretty, especially for one which will be free to play. I'm excited to hear more about it.

@APV

Little known fact, Mirror's edge uses the Unreal Engine 3. You wouldn't know it by looking at it.

This engine, at least as of yet, isn't as impressive, but it is very pretty.

I have been follofing OberDose for quite some time now and they have made huge progress. But i don't think they will release before the end of the year and to be honest the movement is the only thing which doesn't sound all too generic.

@PlayerOneGameBlog Meh, I gave up when years ago. All they do is re-imagine the game over and over with the newest tech they can build. They've never actually gone so far as to make one complete level with AI enemies, weaponry, objectives, etc. Nope, Odium and 'Serk seem to be forever stuck in the "tech demo" mode. That's all fine and good, but if that's the case they should market it as an engine instead of trying to make a game as they've never really headed towards actual game development, just tech development.

@Teancum That would be a valid point, except for the following:

A) We only did one rendering change, and that was switching from per pixel shadow volumes to shadow mapping. This was obviously the way forward anyway.

B) We have characters and all sorts. In fact, I could load up the game right now and play with somebody else with it if I wanted. I usually do?

C) This stuff takes time. It takes a retail company with a huge budget years to make a good title. Every COD that comes out (That everybody screams is rubbish yet still plays) takes two years. Thats two years of hard work, two years of PAID work, two years of full time work, from a 60+ man team. If the work this small indie team is doing for free isn't quite up to par then apologies, but we ARE doing the best we can.

D) The fact you said "enemy AI" shows me you may not actually know what OverDose even is.

These guys have restarted this project more times than Lindsay Lohan has been in rehab. Frankly I lost faith years ago simply because they won't just hunker down and start working on the game. It's a tiny team, so they can't just keep rebuilding the tech to keep up or they'll never have anything to play in the end.

@Teancum See my other comment for this... But this project has been restarted "once" when we wanted to shift from a Q2 Mod to a proper full scale original IP. But even then, work on OverDose was so early (I'm talking a few bits of code) that we could haev switched it 17 times in the same week and not lost ANY work.

"We're excited about the prospect of Generic Sequel 19, but at the same time we just know it's gonna be the same old, same old."

Funny, that's the same feeling I got when reading about the game and watching the trailer.

@VeeDeeVee Then dig deeper. OverDose has a LOT of original stuff that hasn't been done before.

Sometimes its awesome to remake the wheel. Sometimes, its better to just go with a tried and trusted wheel and just add spikes to it.

How can you do an indie pitch for a game that apparently isn't even out? I went to the website and it doesn't mention their progress or any idea of a release date. The concept is cool and all, but until the game exists it's about as useless as an asshole on your elbow.

I wouldn't say that would be useless. If I was driving I could just hang my elbow out the window and "lose some weight." I'd be down with that.

haha, well first of all, it's just a quote from Kill Bill 2. Secondly, your arm and elbow aren't connected to your stomach or digestive tract so your wouldn't be able to poop out of it...

I wish I could pay for it, as odd as that sounds. When a game is free, it just feels wrong. I believe that hard work deserves a reward.
