Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked due in North America this summer

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked, Atlus's enhanced 3DS port of the DS Devil Survivor, will be available to North American gamers eager to jump back into demon-filled Tokyo this summer. Atlus announced the release window today and sent out new screenshots, which you can enjoy in our gallery.

Overclocked includes everything from the DS game -- about a group of Tokyo residents attempting to stop demons from invading the city through interdimensional rifts, before everyone dies -- with an extra eighth day added to everyone's projected lifespan, and voice acting added throughout.

..now they are making ports of DS games for the 3DS.. sounds really lazy.

While i'd normally agree with you, some 3DS games had terrific ideas and were good games, but the hardware held them back. Splinter Cell is a good example, the framerate on the 3DS version was laughable but it was still a decent game. Lazy or not, it's giving us some choice and if the game is really that horrible, we vote with our wallets.

still I dunno how can a game based on sprites can be really improved to have 3D graphics, unless the sprites are remade with a lot higher resolution, or change to 3D models which I think is the way to go, I really like this game, its challenge and story, but unless they do something really radical with graphics, it is not worth it to buy it again...

Yeah, it's kinda lazy, and of course a sequel would be better than an enhanced port. But all game companies are just here to make money. They want to release the first great RPG on the 3DS.

I wanted to add, I just don't understand why people are fussing about this. Lots of other games have been ported or re-released. It's not a big deal.

They added more content, cleaned up graphics for the better resolution, add full voice acting. Sounds no different than the HD ports of PS2 games that everyone get's excited about..

PS2 ports are another story. This is a game that wasn't released all that long ago and they changed a couple things and moved it to the next gen console. It would be like re-purchasing Chrono Cross from the DS version with added voice acting.. ( which would be kind of cool I think.. ). Don't get me wrong, I love Shin Megami Tensei. But I can't help but feel this is just a way to release the game again under the new consoles name.

@xTetheredWingsX Do you mean the DS version of Chrono Trigger? Because if there was a port of Chrono Cross and I missed it I need to go find that now.

@xTetheredWingsX God of War 2 came out in 2007, and was released as an HD port in 2009 on the PS3. Devil Survivor came out in 2009 and will be released as an upgraded port in 2011 on the 3DS? What's the difference again?

Yes, that may be true. But God of War is just.. awesome?

I just don't see this being all that big of a seller, that's all.

As for the Chrono Trigger/Cross, yesI meant Trigger.. my bad.

I'm sorry but Devil Survivor is very much awesome as well.

Good to hear. I missed it the first time around (having not gotten into SMT until late last year), so it's a pretty compelling reason for me to pick this up.

I missed it as well and will most likely pick it up for the 3DS. I do wonder who Atlus feels they are going to sell this to - at least in the states. There aren't a ton of people interested in the SMT series, let alone a bunch that passed on the DS version yet may pick it up for the 3DS.

@vidjagamer Well, in truth, since Persona 3 and 4 got some decent attention, the series has been on a bit of an upswing in NA. It's certainly faring a hell of a lot better than in the "Revelations" days, that's for damn sure (and this is coming from someone who came within an hour of buying "The Demon Slayer" for GBC back in the day... fortunately someone came in to trade in a copy of Star Ocean 2 just before closing, and so I was spared).

While this does sound kind of neat, I never finished the original version of the game. I really should do that.

Also I'm a bit underwhelmed with the 3DS in general so far. I'm not planning on picking one up immediately.

This is od now they Porting ds games now come on nintendo need to step up and stop these kinds of ports . Ports should only be done 2 to 3 after their next gem system out and should Add more then one game per carts

this could be classified as an 'enchanced port', but i'm not bothered. i really enjoyed devil survivor, and will happily play through it again in the form of the 3ds version. that is, if it gets released in europe.

I want this game but I won't be buying the 3ds until region lock is removed (by nintendo or otherwise) and the price is cheaper.

I own the original, and while a new version is tempting with an extra day and voice-acting.....eeeeehhhhh. The original was so damn hard I'm not sure I want to do all that work again. -_-;;
