Relic Entertainment has set up the Brian Wood Memorial Game Design Internship for students at the Vancouver Film School's Game Design Program. The internship will give one student a four-month paid stint at the developer, with the company providing three graduating students the opportunity each year.
The internship is named after Brian Wood, lead developer on Company of Heroes Online, who died last year after a tragic incident. The first internship will begin next month.

Such a tragedy but I am pretty proud of the way Relic Entertainment has continued to help the family and remembering Brian.

No need to be: Mr. Woods lives on resurrected thru the birth of his child. This is a great tribute to a real man. I applaud Relic for taking a proactive approach in remembering one of their own. Most companies don't even do half of that for their employees. Kudos.

This was a terribly sad story, but it brings the gaming community together.
Not a troll in sight, everyone shares their thoughts and opinions and they're generally all the same.
May this great man rest in peace.

Great on Relics part.
Sucks that it's just VFS tho, If they were offering it to AI as well that'd be such an amazing amount of motivation for me to get my reel done top-notch. Oh well, such is life.
RIP Woods

Great to see them set this up. His actions are definitely heroic! I wouldn't call that tragic accident an "incident" though. That term is used in the legal community to imply that someones claims, or the events, are less severe than they have asserted in a suit. When writing briefs we use it as a subtle jab. Thus some may be offended.

This is great. The VFS students could really use it, too - I know for a fact that the school is $50,000 tuition and that no financial aid is offered.

@Aerothorn It's a Canadian school... so around $35,000 is accurate, in Canadian funds at least.
As a person starting this program in about a month, I can say, though, that it is still not cheap :P
This is a fantastic way to honour Brian Wood's memory, with or without its financial benefits.

@Rufuscrim Ah, yes - I forgot that they charge Americans through the roof. Not really sure why - the Canadian economy is better than ours right now!
But yes, it certainly does seem to be a great program - I seriously considered it, and stopped only because I decided that I couldn't take games industry hours.

That's really cool. VFS students already pay a lot (I'm an alumni of their Classical Animation program), but I'm really happy to hear this. Bless you, Brian.
