Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia HD trilogies coming March 22 on PS3 Blu-ray disc

Despite being a franchise that's all about sneaking, it comes as no surprise that the first three Splinter Cell games are getting HD facelifts for PS3 -- after all, the Prince of Persia trilogy already has (on PSN, at least). Ubisoft has announced today that both "remastered" series will hit retail on Blu-ray disc March 22 for $40 apiece.

Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD will include the original Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, all three offering 3D modes for compatible televisions. The Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD disc contains Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. While the games run at a higher resolution, they're identical to their original releases underneath the HD sheen, meaning any bugs that plagued them are present, too.

The Splinter Cell collection will also be released on March 22 on PSN for the same $40 price tag, along with a digital Prince of Persia trilogy "bundle" for the same price. Currently, the three PoP classics are going for $15 a pop as separate downloads on the PlayStation Store.

SAN FRANCISCO – January 31, 2011 – Today Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Classic Trilogy HD and Prince of Persia® Classic Trilogy HD for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Classic Trilogy HD and Prince of Persia® Classic Trilogy HD will give gamers the opportunity to relive the critically acclaimed Price of Persia and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series, re-mastered in high definition and 3D stereoscopic view.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD and Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD each combine three full-length games onto one Blu-Ray disc: Splinter Cell®, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow® and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory® will be bundled together for the first time while the three Prince of Persia titles, Prince of Persia The Sands of Time™, Prince of Persia Warrior Within® and Prince of Persia The Two Thrones® will also share a disc. The trilogies will be made available to consumers in retail stores on March 22, 2011 for an MSRP of $39.99 each and as a digital bundle on the PlayStation®Network.

ive never played prince of persia. But i did play the first splinger cell.

And hopefully ubisoft will decide to make the retail versions less shitty than the downloadable versiions.

I still have the first Splinter Cell on Gamecube. It had a GBA link system where you could control the hacked sentry guns, get a sticky bomb and even a real time map on the GBA screen. What about those features and the exclusive level of the PS2 version? Is it clear what game version is actually being updated?

I've played them but never beaten before, though your in for a treat with these trilogies coming out in March.

@xIDz KinG - I've played all of the Splinter Cell games but haven't played a Prince of Persia game (other then the XBLA remake of the original game) before.

I've considered downloading Sands of Time on PSN because that's the one I always heard the best things about but part of me is holding out, hoping for an XBLA release since that's my primary platform.

You realize Sands of Time came out in 2003, right? Are you saying that when it came out you thought to yourself, "this game looks great, but I will wait until the Playstation 3 comes out, and then in 2011 they will re-release this game and it's sequels in high definition"?!

Me getting SC Trilogy will depend entirely on which version of Chaos Theory has been remastered.

i agree. here's hoping that they remastered all of the xbox versions of both splinter cell. however, from what i have read right here on joystiq about the already released "hd" versions of prince of persia on psn, they have done a terrible job. should i be reticent to embrace the beyond good and evil re-release coming out soon?

Sweet, here's hoping that the Splinter Cell games come back with multiplayer.

Wish they would remaster Castlevania Symphony of the Night and re-release it. Basically that's the main HD remake i'd want besides FF-VII.

@phinn How about the Silent Hill or Resident Evil series remade? Or at least 1-3 of both series.

I'd also love to see Micro Machines V3 remade but I'm not sure if other players remember this, imo, the best top-down multiplayer racer ever made.

If I can play Spies vs. Mercs (NOT the DA version) again, then day one sir.

Don't buy the Prince of Persia bundle. I have the first one on PSN and the sound is HORRIBLE.

Why is this comment marked down? The sound IS horrible in PSN Sands of Time, with a lot of issues that aren't present in the original PC, PS2 and Xbox versions (never played the GC one). There's no surround support of any kind (which the Xbox had) and the voices are frequently impossible to hear, unless the camera is right up next to the character who is speaking.

I didn't get Warrior Within, but Two Thrones is markedly better... even though it doesn't retain surround support, either. :/

Damn it all. Can we get a 360 release, please?

Damn I love me some Splinter Cell.

They should release these collection as NGP titles down the line! :) I would love to play these HD collections along with the others that's been released like GoW and the Sly collection on the go.

I haven't played Warrior Within or The Two Thrones (but LOVED The Sands of Time). If you've played WW and/or TTT, please reply with a rating for each of the two from 1 - 10 (1 being suckage, 10 being awesomeness). Thank you!

I'd give TT 8 or 9. I had it for X-Box and thought it was loads of fun. I really liked the extra abilities you had when you changed into the "dark" prince (don't remember if it actually had a name).
Of course, I am a huge fan of these parkour-type games (Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed, Mirror's Edge, etc.), so perhaps that makes me a little biased.

@sammo21 Hardly. It's the best platforming and combat in the series.

@Epoque: Too bad that you can, in Warrior Within, literally run right past every single enemy that isn't pre-positioned to knock you off a wall or beam (or a boss). I know this to be true because I've done it on multiple platforms.

What's the appeal for the Splinter Cell collection? Weren't the PS2 versions reviled compared to the Xbox versions? Ubisoft's dumb enough to have remastered the worst versions, so I'll be interested in seeing how that collection turns out.

ugh, no thanks. I don't need these games ruined for me....Splinter Cell 1 and 3 were good and so was the first Sands of Time game. I don't need to play through them again and have the memories ruined for me.

@sammo21 If experiencing art a second time around ruins it for you, you deluded yourself into liking it in the first place.
