Dog destroys Dead Space 2 disc, Visceral replaces with signed copy
62
There are lots of ways to get your favorite video game signed by the developers. You could win a contest, corner the developers at a conference and, of course, stalk them. Now, thanks to a Dead Space fan named Ashley, there's another method -- have your dog destroy the disc.
Whilst playing her brand new copy of Dead Space 2, it seems Ashley's dog knocked over her Xbox 360, irreparably damaging the disc. Naturally, Ashley did what anyone would do in that situation: She shared her woes on Twitter. Visceral art director Ian Milham spotted her tweets, asked for her address and sent her the goodies seen above. Yes, that is a hand-drawn picture of Isaac Clarke scolding Ashley's dog next to a (very) signed copy of Dead Space 2.
Truly, it's a heart-warming story about one of the most disgusting video games around -- and more tolerable as marketing than the "Your Mom Hates This" campaign. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to go coat this Halo: Reach disc with peanut butter.

She was pretty/not homely. That's why Ian responded to her.

Unfortunately, I also feel this is the case. There are so many people making valid complaints about the game (see PC version's hacked multiplayer), but Visceral responds to a "Dog Ate My Dead Space" comment?
What's next? A marketing campaign about how our moms hate Dead Space? Oh wait...

Yeah, he still did a good deed, don't get me wrong but come on.
The first public goodwill gesture by an adult male and it just happens to be an attractive girl gamer. Right...

a nice feel good story. makes me want to pick up the game that much more, though i'll wait a few months until it comes down in price anyways since i have about a year's worth of backlog on games. (almost done with ff13, just got alan wake, still on dead space 1 and bioshock 2)
on a side note, my dog knocked over my ps3 also, and my new copies of killzone 3 and infamous 2 were destroyed, man oh man, what am i going to do?...what's that? they aren't out yet? ok, i'll try again in a few weeks.

Wow that is awesome. My dog destroyed my Final Fantasy 3 cart about 3 weeks ago so I guess I just need to get a Twitter account.

Don't forget to include lots of curse words, you know, for shock value. In fact, just use the same one over and over. And throw in some emoticons for cuteness.

I had trouble deciding what to post in response to that comment. Do I go with:
"That is literally the most disgusting comment I have ever read. At night, my dreams will be haunted by picturesque images of your disturbing activities."
or the equally disturbing and possibly classic:
"I just came."

That is so cool. Just for that, I'm going to go get a copy of Dead Space 2. I'll support any developer who truly cares for their audience in that way.

Am I alone in thinking that anyone who doesn't know how to train a dog shouldn't have one?

They didn't teach don't knock my Xbox over while I'm playing it at my dog training class.

It's a shame my teachers never gave me anything when "my dog ate my homework." I would have preferred some free games instead of being berated in front of my fellow students.

My dog actually did eat my homework once. Good luck getting anyone to believe that story even when it's true.

That's really a nice story!
But honestly...all the signs across the game ruin the artwork for me a bit. The untouched game + a big Dead Space 2 poster with all the signs would have been better imo....
The drawing is awesome though. :)

Sorry that I actually care about the front cover of a game...I just mentioned that. It's my opinion and that's it. It's still a very cool move from Visceral.

She should still have the original cover since she actually bought the game before. Would you rather have two identical front covers? Let me know the next time you get a game signed by the entire dev team and I'll trade you a regular one for it.

How exactly did the DVD break inside the console? Was the Xbox pulverized as it hit the floor?
Perhaps someone here who has a 360, a dog and a copy of Dead Space 2 would be as kind as to repeat the incidence?

I see. Well if my PS3 hit the floor I'd mainly be concerned about the floor. ;)

Guess I have a different definition of what a heartwarming, feel-good story is. Usually, it involves oh, I dunno ... not dropping a half-dozen F-bombs, and not having an emotional meltdown over a $60 item. (What does she do when she drops her $200 cell phone? Guess we'd have heard about it.)
Other than that, cool story. What a nice lady.
