How about I treat 5 of your staff to Roscoe's for a pass. Deal? Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles is the best around. Nothing's gonna ever take it down.

Wow. So basically IGN will get, what, three times as many press passes as say, Giant Bomb or Eurogamer? Lame city.

@gatotsu911
Well, to be fair, I'm sure IGN has probably more than three times the staff that those two websites do.

This is disappointing. I would think they'd want to have a number of tickets available to consumers rather than shutting them out completely. The press does a good job at E3, but there's nothing like seeing the game for yourself.

@HissingNewt Yeah... there really should be one or two public days for E3, if they want to do this. I mean, I understand keeping the press as the press, but if you're going to do that, let Joe Gamer onto the show floor for a day. E3 is freakin' huge, after all.

Trust me, you would not believe the amount of BS "media" folk show up at E3. I work in the industry and like to see what everyone's doing too but when a 16 year old from butterchurnerz.com gets to cut ahead of everyone else that's waiting for a demo of a new game, it tends to raise a few eyebrows.

I'm sure there's good reason they're doing this.

@NegativeGhostrider I'm sure there is, too. I just wish they'd have maybe two days after the press part of the event so that ordinary people can go in and see all the games.

The folks who run E3 sure do put forth a lot of effort to keep people out, these days.

That's how shows like this work. E3 and others are not meant for the public, they are meant for the people that work in that specific industry -- in this case electronics and games. There's no reason for people like you or me or some guy who has a blog he updates every couple days to go to E3 (well, I don't know you, maybe you are Hideo Kojima in disguise, in that case you should probably go).

This is why all the other game conventions(Games Cons,TGS,etc)are slowly taken gamers interest away from E3.E3 has become a media headquarters.

No offence Joystiq

@southernpredator "has become"? It always has been, that's kind of the whole point. That's like saying a corporation has gotten more businessy in the last few years

I don't think its the media that makes the gaming industry a multi-billion dollar investment for shareholders.

But E3 is still the one where the big announcements happen. Of the major events, it's the only one Nintendo gives a damn about period, and Sony and Microsoft certainly give far more emphasis on it than the others

The demos at the others are fun, if you live in select markets...

Now I need to call up E3 myself, wondering if anybody might know the answer in advance though.

I have been working in the industry for nearly 10 years now, I've been going to E3 since 2k4/2k5, but I'm in between jobs right now. Due to the nature of my work E3 is the most important event of the year for me for networking and info gathering. IE the PR and Consulting segments of what I do, I have to be able to meet as many people as I can as well as learn as much as I possibly can about upcoming titles and industry goings on. Would I have any issue getting into E3 right now being between jobs seeing as I am an industry vet and it's events like E3 that help me with my work, not to mention get work? I mean I got a major industry job a few years back because the guy that interviewed me positively from E3.

@TheDarkWayne A little bit of everything over the years actually.

I've worked for major companies like IGN/GameSpy, done tech support, retail, did much of the work on and helped run the worlds largest subscription game file website, writing, consulting, broadcast game journalism, run betas, designed and ran contests and advertising campaigns, given multiple speeches on the videogame industry, and had my work in a game or two.

I'm sure if you are still technically in the industry (show them some paperwork, business cards, reference letters from a former employer) you wouldn't have a problem getting in.

@OmeletPants I hope you are not being sarcastic, because yes E3 is massively important for networking as well as scouting potential employees/employers. In a funny story, I've been given job offers at E3 from people that thought I worked for Penny-Arcade, because I was wearing a PA badge so forumers would recognize me.

Quantcast is trash. I pull 140,000 uniques a month on average from our personal stats, and Alexa backs this up as well.

Quantcast says we're running 14,000...because we don't have the widget up. If E3 officials are going to arbitrarily use this horrid tracking system, it's time to praise Quantcast, I guess! Either that or we don't go, like we have been for the past two years.

Not going to lie, I was totally trying to pull a Destructiod. Though I figured that was going to be unreasonable anyway.

ps. hardly anything released at E3 is newsworthy anymore. Maybe when people still read EGM but certainly not now. Keep your passes.
