Should be $10 a month in the first place! But cool...

Sadly, I'll probably pass. I haven't really seen anything that's convinced me that this is anything more than one huge fanservice, and the majority of reviews I've read seem to paint this as a very mediocre mmorpg.

@Vegeta has a ps3

I own it and it sucks... I'm glad I haven't payed for the month because I can get rid of it with very little loss...

Oh oh...this isn't normally a good sign of things...you have the lifetime rate, and the 6 month rate to incentive consumers...

I just got into Eve and man is it fantastic. Only 8 years late to the party. I was serving time.

Good luck DC...especially with Champions going F2P.

This is my first MMO, so I dunno how the vets see it, but I'm finding it extremely fun.

I'm also finding it frustrating at times because there's so little documentation. But eh. I'm still enjoying the hell out of it.

@OverMuch Documentation has always been served better on fan forums for MMOs. I'm sure one is kicking up for DC.

@Jack Kevorkian

I'm finding this out. Kind of a shame, actually, to have to search and search and search just to find out what a barrel does when I blow it up.

I also take into account that I'm diving into a new area of gaming that I've never experienced before, and having to learn a whole new way to play a video game.

All in all, though...I'm really digging it.

@OverMuch

It took me awhile to find it as well. It's linked from the Start Up screen before you launch the game:

Oh, I should also add that I'm playing it on PC.

PS3 might be a very different animal, I dunno.

I have it on PS3 and I'm really enjoying it! I was just about to get some more time so I'm glad this deal is here! And the reviews I've seen have been positive for the most part. But I'm coming into this as an action/adventure game fan not an mmo fan, so I guess I might have a different outlook if I were looking for a Warcraft type experience. I don't know, but I'm loving it myself!

The problem with MMO's on consoles is that the market of video games of today is damn savage, you have like 4 great games per month, so the most of the players are looking for ending one game and jump into other one, just a few games offers a long time experience. Also the file system on consoles is mostly locked, don't allowing mods and customization, if the game doesn't have a proper and well done customization tool you are just stuck with what you got, that's why MMO's are better on PC, with the modding community and customizations you feel like you have some incentive to play the game again and pay a monthly fee.

Was it that obvious that it was too expensive? Honestly, I think a better model would be to have PS Plus as the only way to play MMOs on PSN and then a $5-7 fee/mo to the game provider.
Makes more people take the plunge into PS Plus (note that I havent yet either) and is a reasonable monthly fee for a game.

I played WoW for about 5 years, then once i heard about Cata i quit.. then was looking forward to FF14, was pumped and knew it would be rough as every other MMO has ever been.. then my buddy got the collectors a week early, i just straight up laughed and am happy i didnt waste $80..

DCUO sold me on the beta, the combat is fun.. especially duel pistols and rifles (both require really awesome combos, that reward good amounts of power and excel in PVP to keep distance i find).. even at the lv20 limit..

as for the level 30 cap, i hear constant complaints about a wall.. you can constantly improve your character by achiecement hunting (they reward skill points, which is the best use of them i have ever seen..).. as well as the thousands of collectables are great for those of us with OCD >_> ... and a major patch incoming mid-feb which i wasnt expecting till late march..

sure youll run into a problem here and there, a freeze a day maybe.. lose sound for a Duo or alert.. a style not collecting right away.. but as far as MMO's go, these problems arnt anything new for those of us who play at launch..

@NIck PSN ID Rattlehead91 The economy is kind of crap right now. How many other game genres give you hundreds of hours of entertainment for $15 a month that you can honestly say lets you keep encountering new content?

That's nice, lemme know when you make it free to okay like any other competitor to WoW has done. Sadly I don't see that happening with SoE.

@marczeffren

I always wondered about the legalities of news reporting. Many sites rip off stories from other sources word from word, but seem to get away with it.

Then again, even Joystiq takes news stories reported by other sites and makes it their own articles. Words are changed and credit is given, but in the end, they still get the readership and the page hits.
